Odd

If you read blogs, this story isn't much of a surprise:

U.S. troops battled insurgents holed up in houses and driving explosives-laden vehicles in a town near the Syrian border, killing at least 28 of them Sunday in an expansion of their two-day-old offensive against Al-Qaida fighters along the Euphrates River valley, the military said.
The part that's almost disconcerting is that it appears in the Star/Tribune, under the headline:
U.S., Iraqi forces flush out insurgents; 28 killed
A change in the Strib's philosophy in covering the war?

Or is some copy editor's head gonna roll?

I attended a seminar about the Iraq War yesterday. The speakers included a history professor who addressed a couple of time periods in Iraq's history. His speech illustrated that the Bush administration either knowingly or with typical ignorance chose to deny the true ethnic, tribal, and religious composition of Iraq and the surrounding countries before deciding to go to war.
Another speaker was an anthropology professor who spoke to the effects of economic disruption in the country and how the negative effects our invasion and occupation spills over into other Middle Eastern cultures.
We also heard from a member of American Friends Service Committee who addressed the human suffering brought about by the disruption in basic services as well as the devastation to the economic base in Iraq. He also spoke to the fact that aid agencies are all but banned from helping in Iraq, so the true results of our war are not able to be reported while the people affected are denied the usual intervention of the Red Cross, etc.
Most importantly, one speaker was an Iraq War marine. He served two tours of duty, and was at Guantanamo Bay when the first Afghan conflict prisoners were brought in. I won't go into detail about his stories, but suffice it to say the U.S. isn't in the Middle East to spread democracy.
Attend one of these seminars and you won't have to rely on inadequate or slanted newspaper reporting.

Teena, with all due respect, screw you. You're an idiot.

Care to NAME any of these supposed sources from this alleged seminar?

Any citations AT ALL?

"We aren't there to spread democracy?" Rot in hell, you vapid skeeze.

Geoff, your comments are not respectful in the least.
You may wish to read more about what returning Iraq War vets have to say. Here is a link.

This is from the Iraq Rising weblog:
"How can I support Bush against Saddam who was a Muslim hero and a patriot (yeh,, go figure)."
It demonstrates that this person either is not really an Iraqi living abroad or somehow does not know that Saddam Hussein was not a practicing devout Muslim. He and his sons smoked cigars, watched pornographic movies, and drank liquor. He only reached out to Muslim countries as war approached to try to rally support from fellow Arabs, much in the way he only supported Palestinian suicide bombers because it would appear to his Arab brothers that he cared about their plight. Everyone knows Saddam Hussein was a criminal. Afterall, he consired with George H. W. Bush to skim $250 billion of oil kickbacks during the 80's. They only stopped when Iraq invaded Kuwait.

Ah, I see, Teena. When something doesn't gel with your narrow world view, it's gotta be fake. Carry on, then, I believe MoveOn.org is calling you.
