Clearing The Air

Marcus Aurelius of Clearing The Air - the best blog out there about the smoking ban - has the word about a benefit for Porters - one of many bars that are reeling from the effects of the ban:

Kathy at Porter's Bar has been a friend and a real trooper trying to fight against the property rights infringement by the Johnson & Johnson marketing department the entire time. Sue Jeffers from Stub & Herb's, dubbed the scourge of Minneapolis by the American Lung and other Nicoderm CQ money recipients, is trying to help, here's an email about a fundraiser to help Porter's stay in business...
Read the post for the rest of the story.

I'm going to have to try to be there.

Best blog about the smoking ban?

Or best blog about encouraging lung cancer in the name of free markets?

Pinky,

Nobody forces anybody to go to a private establishment....if you're naive enough to believe the bogus propaganda by the Nicoderm CQ grant recipients......then frequent the voluntarily smoke-free establishments, there were many even before the socialist government intervention.

Bob's apparently not the only one happy to gloat about one's misfortune due to misguided government action.....just remember pinky what goes around comes around.

Yesterday, to my chagrin, I'd composed on my blog, a brief response to the anti-ban position. Unfortunately it was wiped by my Mac before I could publish.
I'll try again today when I find time in my busy day.

I celebrate the fact that our bars, taverns and restaurants are finally free from the hi-jacking that the nicotine crowd has enjoyed carte blanche all these many years.

Is it not possible that it is you who is naive, my friend? I am in favor of free markets, too. But when a serious health issue like tobacco infringes upon the safety of those who do not partake in smoking, I favor the ban.

I would favor a slight relaxing of the ban in order to allow a few specialty smoking bars...much like a cigar/cognac establishment.

".....am in favor of free markets, too. But when a serious health issue like tobacco infringes upon the safety......"

No you are clearly not in favor of free markets if you are satisfied with government intervention here......and aside from rhetoric of the J & J, Nicoderm marketing department doomsday sayers there is no "serious" health risk; the city of St. Louis Park proved that......find one death certificate Pinky that indicates anyone in history died of secondhand smoke......even MPAAT and ALA have never been able to answer that one......your real issue is that you're happy your clothes and hair don't smell of smoke......and that is not justification enough for government intervention.

Free market? I suspect socialism is more your style Pinky? you seem to desire nanny government "take care of you"....the sad truth is nobody is recognizing that a large pharmaceutical marketing company is perpetuating smoking bans across the country for pure financial motives, ALA, AMA, ACS, are all on the take of $200,000,000.00 of Nicoderm money....while naive Pinky buys it no questions asked.... hook, line, and sinker.......enough marketing dollars Pinky and I bet you could be convinced the world is flat....am I right?
