Question

One of the left's more irritating tropes is the "chicken hawk" slander - whereby the opinion of anyone who supports the war but didn't, for whatever reason, serve in the military is attacked with a pavlovian fury by people who, largely, didn't serve either (although some did serve in one capacity or another)

So, question: If a bunch of Iraq vets come back and tell the "chicken hawk" detractors to shut their yaps, because they have no right to an opinion, will they?

Or how about this: if a bunch of guys who saw combat in Iraq confront a bunch of the "chicken hawk" gang who served in the military, only in peacetime, and tell them to keep their mouths shut, will they oblige?

If GIs who support the war who served in the infantry in Iraq confront anti-war veterans who served in Florida or Oregon and tell them to keep their Rear-Echelon Garritrooper opinions to themselves, will they?

I mean, you do see the logical end result of this, don't you?

I'm not allowed to have an opinion on the Global War on Terror because I never served in the military. That's akin to:

I'm not allowed to have an opinion on abortion because, being a man, I can't get pregnant.

I'm not allowed to have an opinion on affirmative action because I'm not Black.

Fair enough. But fair is fair, meaning:

Women and minorities are not be allowed to have an opinion on Constitutional questions because they're not white male landowners.

I am.

Shut up.

Now, how do you like it?

"I mean, you do see the logical end result of this, don't you?"

Well, the logical conclusion is that by using this line of reasoning the Leftists are making sure that policy can only be made by an incredibly tiny group of folks who are "qualified." Well, they've been attempting to do that by regulation and judical fiat for years. After all, they know what's best for us, right?

And now you have found the problem with most of the Left, Mitch. You see that word logical up there? For much of the Left it does not compute. To be a true part of the Left you must feel, not think. Your results don't matter, only your intentions! :-/ (Only half kidding.)

Sounds a lot like the State that R.A. Heinlein envisioned in Starship Troopers. Only military veterans who had completed a tour of at least 2 years had the franchise.

Which is ironic , as the free range alpaca wearing sect of Sci Fi fans ( who 'of course' never would support the GWOT) find that to be the most objectionable of the Masters novels

Logical end results are for those who have power and need to be careful about what they say and where it leads.

Caviling and sophistry such as this are for those, like the Democrats and Liberals, who view power in the rear view mirror - the one on the left, where things are *not* closer than they appear.
