Like much of the blogosphere, I'm going to spend tomorrow trying to help raise money for Hurricane Katrina relief.
Hugh recommends Samaritan's Purse, and Ed is all about Catholic Charities. We'll talk about more tomorrow.

Catholic Charities? Absolutely not.
I’m sorry but as bad as the disaster might be, I’m am not about to support providing funding for a left-wing organization that uses its funds to lobby Congress against welfare reform, against Social Security reform, and in favor of stealing more money from private citizens to fund the Nanny State.
There are plenty of decent charitable groups that don’t have CC’s political baggage and people who wish to provide private assistance for the victims of the hurricane ought to donate to one of those rather than helping CC free up funds for its political lobbying.
Posted by: Thorley Winston at August 31, 2005 01:34 PMNo, instead you'd use your tax dollars to fund an illegal, ill-conceived war to give money to KBR.
Funny, it's always easy to find a reason to not help, especially if you're not really looking to help in the first place.
I wonder.. given that we responded to 9/11, which will pale in comparison to the damage (preventable in many ways) here, whether we'll respond with 280 Billion in Federal expenditures, but then again, that would be charity for a bunch of left-leaning welfare moms, so screw em, let em starve/drown. Better to turn a blind eye to the delta plain erosion, cut erosion abatement and levy improvement funding by 80%, and allow oil companies to dredge additional channels in the delta so that when a hurrican DOES hit, it will kill thousands rather than hundreds or dozens, but hey, at least they won't be aborting any fetuses.
Funny how hypocrisy seems so... I don't know.. ironic.

Posted by: PB at August 31, 2005 11:14 PMHey, PB, you want to sign up for remedial reading sometime? Thorley was pretty clear that he was going to donate, just not to CC. Hypocrisy? You don't have room to talk, bucko. The idea that W would short-sheet New Orleans on disaster relief because the city is run by a bunch of corrupt, incompetent jackasses says more about you than it does about the President - mainly that you only hear what you want to hear.

Posted by: PC at September 1, 2005 09:15 AMKevin,
First, I know FAR more about the New Orleans/Mississippi Delta Gulf Coast issue than you, I suspect, my parents live there.
Second, in no way did I say GWB shorted NO because of corrupt politicians, he shorted the funding because of Iraq, go read what I wrote.
Third, this person complained about a charitable organization because it provides support for abortion, and won't contribute to THAT org, when he undoubtedly supports an attack to which we "contributed" support for a company like KBR, and for which we've killed about 100k Iraqi's, for what, to give "democracy" to them, what a lark, it's going to be a Shia theocracy.
So go read stuff more carefully yourself. The President has collosally screwed up in N.O., the emergency planning for this was woefully inadequate and they had warning enough to have done FAR better. Further, he basically turned a blind-eye to the plight of the poor not only in NO, but basically everywhere, rather instead giving huge tax breaks to the ultrawealthy instead of providing funding and planning for how to evacaute a city that he was advised in 2001 was the second most likely and strategically catastrophic even the country faced, to which he cut funding between 66% and 80%.
You may want to actually find out some facts rather than simply calling me names.
