It seems Hurricane Katrina may have swerved to miss New Orleans, sparing the nation a disaster of (weatherpundits assure us) epic proportion.
People want to know: Why?
The answer: after predicting in sequence that Wesley Clark, then Howard Dean couldn't lose the Democrat nomination, then that there was "no way Kerry loses" the election, Jeff Fecke spent yesterday predicting New Orleans' demise.
New Orleans: you owe Jeff bigtime.

If Katrina would have hit New Orleans, I'm sure the left would have found some way to blame Karl Rove.
Or, better yet ... Since Bush and Cheney are oil men, they purposefully diverted Katrina into the Gulf to cause a rise in oil prices and thus line their own pockets.
Posted by: Armchair Squirrel at August 29, 2005 02:48 PMGive it a week. The headlines and wire services will report Bush didn't give people enough warning and the relief effort is inadequate.
Posted by: Eracus at August 29, 2005 03:46 PMI do what I can.
It's things like this that make me consider switiching parties. If I really wanted to bring down the GOP, there would be no better place for me than as part of the GOP.

...*prediction!*
Posted by: mitch at August 29, 2005 05:28 PMIt should be hard to sneer when so many of your fellow American's are dead.
Anyways, Jeff shouldn't feel bad, I predicted that the hurricane would welcome us as liberators, with flowers and candy.

Well, to be fair to me, when I wrote it I and everyone else in the world thought New Orleans had dodged a bullet.
In a sense, it did; the levee broke in broad daylight *after* the storm, not in the middle of the night with 145 mph winds. It could have been MUCH worse.

As someone once said: It should be hard to sneer when so many of your fellow American's [sic] are dead.

Posted by: Eracus at August 31, 2005 10:18 AMYou know, I would've preferred to be wrong in my predictions this time, as per usual.
Sure, I can't predict the 2004 general election, but this....
Meh. Here's hopin'. (And Kennedy was wrong to blast Bush, IMHO--though GDub's performance after Katrina has been lackluster at best.)

I think he's done quite well post-trauma. Waking up to the reserves letting out was a sign that the Bush Admin. is taking this very seriously... now.
As someone once said: Touche!
