Janeane Garawful West Wing:
If you've ever heard Janeane Garofalo on Air America radio, you know she is no stranger to the world of politics. So it probably won't be too much of a stretch for her to join "The West Wing" for three episodes this fall. Not as much of a stretch as to think of her as a talk show host.
I have to confess - I wasn't even aware West Wing was still on the air.

Am I the only one who would rather spend time sniffing the unwashed rectal thermometers of an overweight Korean chili enthusiast than watch The West Wing?
I generally like Aaron Sorkin's writing, but I always found that show preachy, pretentious, and horrifically overwrought...

Goodness, how many rectal thermometers does an overweight Korean chili enthusiast actually need?
You'd think one would be enough for anyone.
Posted by: Pious Agnostic at August 18, 2005 12:07 PMMitch, I'm with you. I didn't know this was on the air anymore either. Just a matter of time before a reality show squeezes it out I suppose.
That "The Left Wing" has won awards is a sad commentary on our society. The very few episodes I've watched parts of all have seemed to be the same: these noble, majestic giants of hamanity struggle interanlly against the big evil conservative machine and against the unfortunate and unexplainable gullibility of all the common folks who buy the traditional conservative lies. In the end, though someone gives some hoaky "profound, inspiriing" speech, they all sing kumbaya, and go off with a new-found sense of purpose to win the day and enlighten the clueless masses.
Could anything be further from life around the White House?
Its good they add a fever swamp leftist to the camp. With the current cast, they didn't have enough leftists already (sarcasm).
Posted by: guy at August 19, 2005 08:46 AMWhat you guys don't want to hear is that the big conservative machine in this country *IS* evil. It's evil to take a united country after 9/11 and use it to force a trumped-up vendetta in Iraq and a cross-burning racist on the Federal Bench. It's evil to run in 2000 claiming you won't monkey with Social Security, and then greet Tom Delay at a recent speech with chants of "hey hey, ho ho, Social Security's got to go." It's evil to claim the mantle of freedom and then pass laws that force people to renounce their religious faith if they want public assistance.
The West Wing is winning awards because it's just about the only piece of thoughtful, decent-minded drama remaining on what has otherwise unraveled into the ain't-Bush-great machine we used to call television.
