I wrote my history thesis on the Tet Offensive. Having exhausted my sources, I still had some questions about enemy estimates. On a whim, I wrote a letter to General Westmoreland asking for clarification and sent it to his publisher. About two weeks later I received my letter back with the answers written neatly in the margins with a note of encouragement thanking me for my interest. That he would take a few moments to answer a struggling college student's letter truly speaks volumes about his character. R.I.P.
