I wrote this two years ago, during the summer of my discontent, the summer of '03, when I spent six months doing 40 hours a month of subsistence contracting (closely following four months of no work at all).
And, at least in my field, things are getting tantalizingly close to proving me right.

Any advice for the young MUD coders out there without a formal education looking for better job than filling the condiments at the Metrodome?
P.S. Remember when Ratfor was cool?

Wow. During the dotcom boom, it woulda been easy. And before Y2K, Best Buy (and others) were hiring people with the damnedest backgrounds, teaching them COBOL and putting them to work (and happy to accept 90% turnover).
These days, I don't see that sort of thing as much. What sort of code is it?
Ratfor? I remember that in college...
Posted by: mitch at July 15, 2005 10:01 AMWhile I was translating code into ratfor you were coding a game along the back wall of the computer lab...
The young coder here says he is using C+++ with dawn of time code base.
