D-Day Anniversary

Today is the 61st anniversary of D-Day.

This was the view.

You don't see the crisscrossing lanes of machine gun fire, the mines, the mortars, the artillery...

Revisionist history says not to pat ourselves on the back too hard; the Russians were already fighting most of the war, and fully 2/3 of Hitler's army faced them.

Bollocks. How would they have done facing 3/3 of the Wehrmacht and SS?

And what of Western Civilization had there been no D-Day?

Thank a D-Day vet if you see one.

Heck, I got a kick out of the mayor in the story urging Germans to parachute too. From what I took from the article, none took up the offer.

After last year's 60th anniversary, I'm quite surprised today by the lack of mention of D-Day in the MSM. I've seen a few blurbs, but that's all it was. Mostly I've found reminders on the blogs I read.

Ah well, guess that's why I don't watch much more than the local news for a half hour or so in the morning while getting ready for work.

Btw, if this posts twice, I apologize. Got an internal error on the first try :(
