I'm wired to try to find solutions to things, especially when the "thing" is "nasty disputes between people".
For example, I'm pretty much disposed to believe that reasonable people should be able to reach reasonable solutions to the issues that divide us.
Few issues divide us as Americans more than abortion. I oppose it, but it's not my marquee issue. I can see some of the arguments for abortion - the medical ones, anyway. And I think ,sometimes, in unguarded moments, "maybe rational people can reach a rational compromise".
Then I read cretins like this, writing smug, self-satisfied tripe like this, and realize that there are fewer rational people out there than I'd hoped for.

We don't need your kind coming around to our blog with your fancy French notions and your blue state elitist attitudes mocking our traditional conservative Christian values.
I rebuke you in the names of our Lords and Saviors, Jesus Christ and Ronald Reagan.
Posted by: Gen. JC Christian, patriot at May 30, 2005 03:22 AMWords fail. How old are these people? 6th graders with the dear general 13 instead of 12 cuz he got left back a grade?
Posted by: Colleen at May 30, 2005 09:03 AMYou're wasting your time even dignifying these people with a link, Mitch. The tipoff should have been the link to the Landover Baptist Church website, which has about as much to do with real Baptists as Al Franken has to do with real humor these days. What a collection of dorks these people (Jesus' General, indeed) are.
Posted by: Kevin at May 30, 2005 01:31 PMI know it's a waste of time - but the link is hardly dignified.
The ignorant, arrogant, and insufficiently-intellectually-blessed are with us always.
Posted by: mitch at May 30, 2005 01:40 PMYeah, Mitch. it's all about good manners isn't it? If we play nice, can we please have equal treament under the law? can I get that in writing?

Er, anonymous guy with the tiny little pecker
Aha! Take that frog! You're both immature and you have a tiny pecker!
Let me add some more! Your mother wears combat boots, you're super petty, and you have no sense of irony!
That should teach those liberal bastards.
Posted by: Barney at May 30, 2005 11:05 PMReasonable people can come to reasonable solutions. Listen, put down the Atlas Shrugged and stop drinking the kool-aid. You are not reasonable in any way. The General is merely an exercise in hypocrisy exposure. Know thyself, beforest thou criticize others, lest thou be a douchebag.

I have a modest proposal.
All these baby-killers and mockers of the right-to-life of every Embryo-American, Blastocyst-American, and Fetus-American should be taken out and shot for aiding and abetting murder.
It's the only rational solution.

Posted by: Maj. Renato Christian, patriot at May 31, 2005 12:24 AMMitch, I for one recognize your impartiality and rational thinking on this issue. However, a caution: a woman who has an abortion (for medical reasons or not) is less likely to be able to get pregnant in the future with more of our Lord's babies. And if she dies in childbirth, isn't that the clearest message the Lord can send about her suitability as a mother (and, presumably, wife)? There can be no question who should be saved and cherished in that situation--and we should have our incubators and stem cells nearby to celebrate another miracle while the mother (possibly) goes to her deserved reward.
However, every effort needs to be taken to coddle and care for the unborn Americans within her ovaries, as well as the unborn child in her womb. I know medical science can, assuming they could break from their liberal ways, find a way of preserving the deserving life in those ovaries even as the mother gasps her last on the table. Those precious few grams of new life contain more goodness than the one, two or three hundred pounds of spoiled meat that imprisioned them.
Indeed, I ferverently pray for a day when trecherous women, so prone to aborting every child they conceive, will be a footnote and only us good Christian men will be left to reach around and fully embrace the coming brotherhood of Pure Christianity.
Posted by: Cheney, Uncut at May 31, 2005 01:41 AMYou can say what you'd like about my pro-life credentials, but did you know that I've rescued billions of Spermatazoan-Americans? I keep them safe, tucked away in mason jars down in my cellar.
Can you say the same, Mitch? I doubt it. You don't seem like the type who would back his words with actions. Otherwise, you'd be posting from Mosul.
Posted by: Gen. JC Christian, patriot at May 31, 2005 01:56 AMWow. Rip on one gutless anonymous commenter, and stir up a whole swarm of 'em.
Who'da thunk it.

You seem to be living proof that Americans have no sense of irony.
The General is to right wing news reporting what The Onion (www.theonion.com) is to main stream reporting.
I suggest that you learn to read before you pick your next target.
Posted by: Doors of Perception at May 31, 2005 02:33 AMDoor,
No, I caught that it's an attempt at "satire". I read just fine. It was still moronic - the sort of broad, "look at how clever I am" satire that high school sophomores who've never really been told they're not all that clever write.
I can read - including the smug tripe between the lines.
Posted by: mitch at May 31, 2005 02:36 AMOr, put another way: "I've seen the Onion. Jesus General is no Onion".
The last refuge of the truly shitty satire writer; "Americans have no sense of irony!".
And with that, I'm closing the comments. "Jesus General"; your fans *are* satire.
