While You Weren't Paying Attention

Over the past week, we've seen a number of instances of media figures, from the Strib Editorial Board to the intellectual midgets on FrankenNet to leftybloggers to, now, the WaPo take up the cry; the "fake but accurate" "Killian memos" at the heart of last year's Rather controversy have "never been conclusively proven false".

Powerline dispenses with that notion.

I have a memo, written by Bill Clinton himself, which proves he conspired with Hillary to have Vince Foster killed. Iron clad proof. Shall we arrest them now?

I also have documentation showing how Bill Clinton subverted campaign finance laws with all those "coffees" that Johnny "The Bag Man" Chung helped organize in the White House.

And another document that shows how Teddy Kennedy used his influence to avoid an vehicular manslaughter charge in the 60's.

Where can I fax all these, so the criminals can be prosecuted? Let's run 'em up. We all KNOW these things to be true...and my documents prove EVERY charge.

I wonder if, in this fast-paced world, lies naturally tend to win. Lies translate into media shorthand better than the truth does--they seem to. Maybe that's why the talk radio format seems to reward the truth (with ratings) much more than TV does, or AP does. Radio is longform.
