It is disgusting that two individuals who, in a society with a sensible criminal justice system, would have been doing 40 years without parole for their earlier predations, and thus would not have been able to kill any law abiding citizen, were instead allowed to inflict so much damage. The next ten murders that you read of, learn about the past criminal history of the murderers. A very high percentage will have been convicted of previous violent offenses, and have served relatively short sentences, which I define, for crimes of violence, as anything less than 25 years.

The murderer in this case, for crying out loud, had an ATTEMPTED MURDER conviction in his past. Why a man in his thirties who has been convicted of attempted murder is allowed to live among law-abiding citizens is beyond my understanding. Don't even talk about cost. The prime function of the state is to protect the law abiding from the predatory, and until that function is adequately addressed, no tax revenues should be directed to any other activity of the state.

I re-read the Pioneer Press story on these two low-lifes (not their words) and the complete cluelessness (my word) of the PPress on WHY it might have happened. The CLOSEST thing to an explanation was from someone who said that people moved away from the places with "lifestyle quality" issues (their words) and rented out their houses to, presumably, 'renters'. That's it for root causes. Nothing about why they came from Chicago to Twin Cities, nothing besides a dry recitatino of their rap sheets. Why, who would expect two upstanding crack-heads (a guess, and my words not PP) to commit a lifestyle quality offense such as this.

Where's the outrage of the PPress? Are criminals from Chicago just wafted here on a strong breeze? WHY do they come here?
