Technology Improving Life

Finally - a Twin Cities Pinball Database website.

Thank you, ye sprites and angels of technology. This is technology I can use!

Finally? That database has been there for four or five years at least. If you google "twin cities pinball" it is the first entry on the list.

Yeah, "Minnesota pinball" or "Minneapolis pinball" might have occurred to you first, but you had to find it eventually if you were looking. Are you getting your pinball links from the same source Jonah Goldberg's gets his time waster links? (For the crowd: Goldberg rediscovered the Burger King "subservient chicken" website yesterday.)

The list is good if you have a favorite table or want something close to home (don't you live within biking distance of like seven colleges anyway? What's up with college game rooms these days?)

But why look when SS Billiards is THE happening pinball place.

Not literally, because so few folks play pinball. But it has a good rotation and never a broken game. Plugged in, anyway. And Lloyd, the proprieter, is a nice guy -- just try to leave without talking to him.

Plus, if you think you are really good, there are periodic tournaments.

The U of M used to have a semi-regular tournament, but who wants to hang with college kids?

Spring Lake Amusement gets good grades too, but I can't personally vouch.

I have a hunch there are LOTS of things that have been out there for four or five years that I have no idea about...

But thanks.

Sorry if my lead paragraph seemed judgemental. I have a standing policy against smileys. I'm tring to develop the writing skill to convey sarcasm when appropriate, and smileys would stunt my growth.

I haven't revisited the pinball database in years. I'm conveniently located in SS Billiards sphere of influence, so I don't need to.

I was sad to see the state of pinball when I first found the site years ago. Reviewing the master list again for the first time in years, it has only gotten sadder. Bars and giant family fun centers alike seem to have room for one pinball machine and nobody to maintain it.

I don't hold out hope for a pinball renaissance, especially as they become relegated to bars. I find preteen boys are still facinated by the physicallity of pinball, in contrast with video games. I can't speak for teenage boys, because I don't know any personally, but I am given to understand they are interested in a different physicallity.

Glad you finally found us. Like pinball? Check out www.tcpe.org for some local information.
