Nick Coleman turns his keen journalistic eye on the PiPress (HT: Fraters), naming Mark Yost the "Wingnut of the Week".

Note to Mark: It's not as big a deal as you might think.

The funny parts? While he was talking with Brian "Who's Brian Lambert?" Lambert on his "program" today, Coleman:

...yammered on for a few minutes about how he'd love to give out Yost's office number - but it's not published in the paper. Duh, Nick - don't you have a source at the PiPress? I thought you "knew stuff?"
...chuckled as Lambert (a onetime unofficial DFL shill who's become an official DFL shill, finally) said "Well, [Yost] is getting what he wants. He's got you talking about him...". Er, yeah; a mention on a morning show with about a half point audience share is a real career-builder. More people hear Yost on a Thursday night at Keegan's than on a week of Coleman's "program".

Hey, where's Kuhbi? Without the lad's prepubescent chirp, we get nothing but Coleman's voice, the aural equivalent of wet peat moss.

Well, for the forty seconds I stay tuned in anyway.

I listen for 30-40 seconds at a pop, when the urge strikes - which is maybe 1-2 times a week.

The "attraction" is the same as for a car crash or NHL fight; I'm dying to hear what insult/injury he's going to add to the annals of broadcasting.

I have dial radio, and in the morning while dialing back and forth between 1500AM (Bob Davis) and 1280AM (Bill Bennett), I hear this whiney condescending buffoon complaining about David Strom and the "Tax Evaders League." Is that Nick? I assume it is. I never pause long enough to find out for sure.

Yep. I write about Nick a bunch. He is a rich vein of material. For those mornings when 5AM brings writer's block as total as a three-week diet of beef, cheese and peanut butter in the writer's metaphorical large intestine, Coleman is journalistic colace.

Funny how you can take the letters in "Ernst Stavro Blofeld" and come up with the phrase "A troll vents."

Perhaps Ernst was on the cocaine-addled panel at the CityPages who went and named Coleman "Best Columnist."

Come on, Ryan. Think about it. Look at the publication. Those "editors" are to the left of the Red StarTribune editorial staff....and that SAYS something.

Knowing that....its only a coin flip which left-wing hate-monger they select: Coleman....Grow....or Coleman's wife from the Pravda Pioneer Press.

And somebody should call the child protection authorities and get that baby out of Coleman's house as SOON as possible....before its too late. Image the hate in THAT house?

It's too bad City Pages gave Coleman that award. It dims the luster of T.D. Mischke's six wins as Best AM Radio Personality.

I have an established track record of coming up with flippant, silly responses to flippant, silly comments. But if you'd like me to explore the meat of your comment, Ernst my man:

So, you did a Google search on Nick Coleman and Shot In The Dark, and based on that you think Mitch should somehow have a separate category dedicated to Nick? Why? I rip on Coleman columns all the time over at my blog, but I don't think it warrants its own category or page. Coleman's a freakin' loon. He is his own category. He doesn't need any more validation of that fact by Mitch or myself.

As for Powerline referring to him as a "fatuous columnist," I can only assume they do so because every time they mention Coleman by name, the excitable little monkey gets a serious case of the vapors.

Finally, I did not know that about James Bond, but I only became aware of Bond movies during Roger Moore's tenure, so maybe Blofeld came before that. I don't know. I like to dabble in anagrams from time to time, and that name just begged me to try.

Ryan: I don't fancy Coleman as a columnist or radio personality, so I'm not defending him. But I do think the amount of attention he receives by his on-line detractors is noteworthy. I dare you to find a kind word for him with Google. I guess that's what he deserves for crapping wholesale on the blogosphere last fall.

If you dig anagrams, might I suggest your blog be re-titled "Scrambling Screeds?"

Just a hunch here, but maybe you can't find a kind word about Coleman because, in addition to his craptalicious attacks on bloggers, he's also just a phenomenal literary hack who rarely, if ever, writes anything that deserves anything other than scorn and ridicule. His writing resembles the mewlings of an eight year old, and yet his columns continue to appear each week in the largest newspaper in Minnesota. Personally, some of my scorn for the man is that he holds a newspaper position that I frankly wouldn't mind having, and he's freakin' terrible at it. I'm no Shakespeare, but I'm pretty sure I could write rings around Coleman. So, it's kind of irritating to see his brain farts published every week, realize he probably gets paid handsomely for it, and then look at my computer screen and realize I'm writing for a living about IBM's on-demand initiative AGAIN which, trust me on this, is not nearly as exciting as you might think. All this passes through my mind when I read a Coleman column, and then I clench my fists in rage at the sheer unfairness of it all.

Anyway, that was me rambling. How are you?

Who says Nick has no influence -- Sure, Yost wrote me that he only got three phone calls, two from the same guy, but after he criticized my Strom column today, my site is running more than double the traffic pace of a normal day.

Mitch, thanks for all the references to Nick Coleman's show. You got me curious, so I've been listening for a few weeks.

I do have to say the opening music of Nick's show rocks...but then it's downhill from there. The assault on Yost this morning was disgusting and most especially when Nick said someone should give Yost a boot (I think in reference to getting him off the couch), and then his assistant retorted that the boot would get lost. Lovely people, they are.

I have it on pretty fair authority that Yost is a former Marine.

If it's true, I'd love to see any of those jagoffs try to give him a "boot" of any kind.

But it's OK, because I have it on even fairer authority that Coleman is almost as big a pussy as Lambert.
