I heard this on the radio over a week ago. The guy was an otherwise excellent employee who apologized the minute he said it (probably saw his job flashing before his eyes!). The mother was calm and chatty, almost apologetic when 911 first answered and asked her what her EMERGENCY was. What it boils down to is that she wanted to scare her daughters into behaving by calling 911-she has no control over them, so she calls what is supposed to be an EMERGENCY number. She could call the regular police dept. number and accomplish the same thing, but no.

The dispatcher's supervisor said that he had given the guy a letter of reprimand and that would be that. The woman, no matter how many times apologized to (and sincerely-they played the tape) wanted his hide-wanted him fired. Rather than be embarassed to have called 911 for such a lame thing...I can see it if you have 16 year old boys that are out of control...but these girls were 12 and 13...and the woman wasn't the least bit excited-sounding. Fool. But, for once (!!!) this police chief didn't cave in and fall all over himself to accomodate a pathetic grievance. Man, it was refreshing.

One other thing, although the dispatcher had to be plastered all over the news-name, face, interviews, etc., the woman didn't want her name or face seen because people would know how out of control her girls were. Wait til they're 16.
