Solutions

Red Lake tribal chairman Floyd Jourdain's son has been arrested for conspiracy in the Red Lake massacre:

One of the sources, who spoke on the condition his name not be used, said Jourdain and Weise exchanged e-mails that discussed Weise's intent to go on a shooting rampage at the school. Other teenagers who were in e-mail contact with Weise also could face charges in the coming days...

...One source with knowledge of the case said the alleged e-mails between Jourdain and Weise took place days and weeks before the shooting, and involved discussions in which Weise - and perhaps others - expressed an intent to commit an act of violence at the school.

I'm no expert, but I don't think that a new building or more assemblies would done a lot of good.

OH my lordy...the "buckskin curtain" of Red Lake is getting pulled back and will see the closed reservation corruption of gangs, drugs, BIA double-dealing.

Think Floyd-o is going to have to beat a hasty retreat like his dad, Roger J. in 1979...

Mississippi Burning...pshah...more like Red Lake Burning.

I was wondering why I've seen not a mention of Red Lake's history of corruption, or of the Roger/Floyd dynasty, so far.

Any hope this could extend to the deceit of Clyde Bellecourt and Co?

>We can only hope. It seems the big AIM/Churchill/Bellecourt/Means movement from the 1960's and early 70's is starting its big crackup.

Stuff like Red Lake and Churchill may bring some of it in open. A lot from people who I have talked with over the years on Red Lake, Pine Ridge, Rosebud has been coming to a head.

Federal and Tribal graft, drugs, one family/clan fighting another in open warfare, all behind a closed reservation "nation"...no wonder no one will build a factory or plant in such places with shooting, grafting, politicing, gangs, dope and the general hopeless that goes on with it.

They have turned into high plains or forest ghettos where law enforcement is unable or thwarted by tribal law to get a handle on it. When tribal presidents can fire judges, police, treasurers, and other functionaries on a reservation on a whim...well "sovereignty" may have went too far.

Red Lake is basically four or five families fighting each other with the ballot box, bribes and occasional gunfire to control tribal affairs and funds.

I don't know about you but that school looked decent and more secure than ones we have in the cities. The only thing it lacked was a carry permit and weapon in the security officer's hands.

Point of clarification, boys.

Floyd Jourdain is NOT the son of Roger Jourdain. The fact that his full name is Floyd Jourdain Jr. should be the first clue.

The current chairman's grandfather was a cousin of the late Roger Jourdain, which means he is as much a relative as, I would guess, about 70% of the enrolled Red Lake members.

Just a little anecdote re the "poverty" endured by some natives (and these two in the story are more than likely Red Lakers):

My co-worker works part-time as a bartender at a local establishment. She's a young, liberal gal. When she asked them for ID they put a $50 bill down on the bar and asked if that was ID enough. She said no and they were shocked! "You're turning down $50?!". Yep. Well, they laid a $20 down on top of that and tried again....$70. Nope. They produced an ID showing that they neither one would be 21 for quite a while. So, it was a no go. Then they trotted out the standard "You won't serve us because we're native". She replied that she was part native too and that shut them up.

Anyway, imagine having $70 to throw around just to get two drinks. I could go for that kind of poverty. I don't like to even pay $5 for the drink itself.

Obviously I've gotten behind on this story, didn't the news reports say it was Roger's son?
