Why is your language so hateful? Why does this guy want to curb liberals? I've seen it done, it's unpleasent, terribly so, and something that is only done by extreme sociopaths. Is that what you are? Little more than violent thugs who are so angry and the ills of the liberal media, minorities and women that when one of your own takes the office your only fantasies are of punishing those with their imagined offences?
That's great, Mitch. You've sent out a big "fuck you" to about 1 percent of the people that voted for Kerry. I'm sure they're stinging from it, too.
But, you know, while you're doing your little victory dance there, I'd just like to point out that you have now used the phrase "disloyal opposition".
Which is nice, in a way-- it makes me appreciate how comparatively moderate Bush *himself* can appear when he's compared to the right people. But it doesn't say anything good about you.
I can agree that the Elder's comments are over the top. But before people get all huffy about one or two blog posts that are relatively mild - how about checking out the past four years of the most vile, disgusting, despicable sewage that has been heaped on President Bush and republicans in general. In addition, now that the election is over the same kind and thoughtful democrats are advocating sedition. How nice.
Dear sensitive little "Tom"-
Go to Democratic Underground and see if you like those sensibilities any better. An example:
(CNSNews.com) - Bloggers on the liberal Democratic Underground website have overwhelmingly labeled Nov. 3, 2004, the day after Election Day, "more depressing" than Sept. 11, 2001 in a poll of online members.
Seventy-two percent of poll takers said they believed the day Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) conceded defeat in the presidential election was more tragic than the day more than 3,000 Americans were killed in the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and on a hijacked plane that crashed in a Pennsylvania field.
One member, "Big Blue Marble," said "I have lived 61 years, lost my parents and my sister plus many many pets and this is the darkest day of my life."
Another member, "zulchzulu," implied that he/she would like to see President Bush dead. "We can only hope that Bush doesn't make it through four years," he/she said. "The day Bush is no longer president before the term ends will be a national week-long holiday in my World."
Another blogger imagined that because of President Bush's victory in the election, "there will be another 9/11."
How do you like that? Isn't that lovely? So spare us your horror at what "the Elder" had to say. I'm a Baptist church-going grandmother and I say "Amen" to the Elder. Geez, leftists are the most, and I mean THE MOST childish people on earth.
Besides, Tom is deluding himself if he imagines that "fuck you" goes out to 1% of the Democratic voters. News flash: the canard that the crazy Bush haters represent a fringe element of the party was discredited at least a year ago. It's like saying it's unfair to paint the Democrats with Michael Moore's shame. You guys didn't kick his ass when you had the chance - you have to live with him.
I just had my oldest friend post in a comment on my weblog that Bush voters are the hateful, the gullible, the selfish, and sheep. Yay.
The "fringe" "1%" crept into the mainstream around the time Bowling For Columbine won the oscar. Deal with it, but you just look stupid trying to stuff that thing back in your pants.

Brian:
That's bullshit.
I voted for Kerry. 90% of the people I know voted for Kerry. And yet I don't know anyone who doesn't have criticisms of Michael Moore. My girlfriend and I both thought Bowling for Columbine was lazy self-righteous crap, as did most of my friends.
I live in one of the bluest parts of a blue state: Seattle, WA. Most of my friends know this was a wake-up call to Democrats. Most of them are critical of the Bushitler crowd and the DU (the very few who've even heard of the DU). Most of them chanted "Shame on you!" at the Black Bloc pricks who damaged property during the Battle of Seattle. Most of them believe in the electoral process.
I know hundreds of people who voted for Kerry. I've heard *one* guy say that Bush staged 9/11, and the rest of us shouted him down immediately.
But you go ahead and believe we're all out to get you. That way you can be justified in whatever you do or say against us.
On Wednesday evening I would have agreed with those who say the Elder's comments are "over the top", and that only "1% of those who voted for Kerry support the Michael Moore wing of the Democratic Party.
It is now two days hence. During those two days I have visited numerous Dem sites, talked to all my Dem friends (I live in the S.F. area) and read dozens of editorials. I now agree whole-heartedly with Elder's comments. I have had my outstretched hand slapped away, figuratively and literally. I have found the most hate-filled and bitter response to an election in my lifetime, and that includes 2000.
The Left is consumed with the notion that they lost because the Bush supporters are TOO STUPID to know who to vote for. They are actively talking, on numerous sites, about the 59,000,000 million of us who voted for Bush as being "too ignorant for self-government". They are actively talking about needing to "govern them (us) until they are ready for self-government". As though we were some tribe discovered by National Geographic.
This would be humorous until I realize that they are (a) serious (b) well-funded and (c) POWERFUL!! One of my closest friends, of over 20 years, responded to my suggestion that the Democratic Party needed to "shed the Michael Moores" with: "WE NEED MORE OF THEM!".
1% of the Party? Tey 50+% of the Party! Dems...if you want to re-claim your Party you better start NOW!! I know you don't care that you are scaring people like me...but you ought to care that you are PISSING US OFF!!
Joshua, we've spent the last four years being vilified by "you people". Yeah, maybe you were quietly sitting at home, not adding to the noise, with fifty-two million other moderates in your living room, I guess, but, well, thanks for all of your efforts to moderate the more personal and insulting of the invective.
Oh, and that "inviting Moore to sit with Carter" thing - yeah, that convinced me that it was just a small group of troublemakers.
This thread illustrates the problems of the Democratic party perfectly. Yes, the vast majority of party members are patriotic, good hearted and well intentioned. But a very large chunk -- the chunk that has made Michael Moore a multi-millionaire -- are not. They hate W. with the white hot intensity of a thousand suns. They see the U.S. as the major force for evil in the world. They think everyone who believes differently is stoopid (see Jane Smiley's charming little rant in Slate).
If it was 1% Michael Moore would be a poor man (or at least still living off the proceeds of Roger & Me).
As it stands, you can't win the Democratic nomination without the support of this crowd, because they are the most vocal and active.
But you can't win the White House with the support of this group.
In 1992 Clinton had his Sistah Soljah moment. Kerry could have had a Michael Moore moment, publically repudiating the anti-Americanism and lies. Instead he invited him to the convention.
And yes I think it's fair to lift a 1 finger salute to all of those who think I'm a stupid red-neck who hates the poor and minorities, loves war, and beat my wife simply because of the way I vote.
Figuratively speaking, they gave me the finger (actually something much worse) first.
Gummi Nacht, the pathetic reprise of Kristall Nacht.
From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal:
"The 25-year-old son of newly elected congresswoman Gwen Moore was arrested Friday by Milwaukee police and later released in connection with the election day slashing of tires on 20 vans and cars rented by the Republican Party, according to police records."
Gwen Moore is of course, a Democrat. Police are also interested in questioning the son of former mayor Marvin Pratt, also a DEMOCRAT.
Mitch, I'm amazed and quite impressed by your ability to completely ignore your own complicity in this campaign of hate.
Your hatred of the French is quite unhealthy. You have no qualms about saying bin Laden wants Kerry. You suggest - no, you say outright that tyrants are for Kerry. You go after Democratic (learn the party name) "hate" sites, but I've never seen you get too excited over the non-stop hate going on at places like FreeRepublic or Little Green Footballs (both of which are endorsed by the Republican Party of Minnesota). Any reader who looked through your election coverage would come away wondering why you get so upset by hate on the left when you spew so much of your own hatred in this very blog.
My guy lost. I am dissapointed, but now we have re-elected President George W Bush to a second term. No one can doubt his legitamcy.
The President owns it now. He can't blame Clinton, or a deadlocked congress, the ball is in his court.
I won't play dead, over the next couple years, but I will certainly tone down the rhetoric and give the President every opportunity to prove me wrong.
I also plan on starting the tradition my father incorporated into his office at home. I will find an 8x10 of President Bush (That's you assignment, Mitch. You find it, I'll display it), and hang it in my Den. This will remind my family that we honor the sitting President, regardless of his party affiliation.
Like the Doctor said to me Tuesday Night, while we were at the GOP gathering at the Marriott and they just called Ohio for the President, "Look at the bright side Flash, you have four years of fresh material for Centrisity" I guess that is one way to look at it. *smile*
Again, congratulations! I look forward to the next MoB gathering as I will proudly shake all your hands, and take the lumps I deserve. For in this country, we move on in defeat, not strap on Bomb vests to terrorize the oppostion.
Wow, this thread is really getting ridiculous. I can't speak for Mitch but he should have no qualms about saying bin Laden wants Kerry. It doesn't take much reading of national and international news to come to that conclusion. It's not like Mitch made it up. Try to think of it from bin Laden's perspective. Would you rather have a guy who subscribes to the Neville Chamberlain school of diplomacy (Senator Kerry) or a guy who subscribes to the the Winston Churchill school of diplomacy (President Bush)?
Regarding the French: it certainly is difficult to maintain cordial feelings toward a country whose government claims to be our ally but whose actions indicate that it is in reality our enemy.
The rhetoric at Free Republic can certainly get intense. But it doesn't even come close to the vile, execrable stuff spewed by the loving, kind, tolerant people at the democratic underground and other "patriotic" sites. The continuing refusal of people on the left to understand this is one of the reasons the election results are what they are.
Wow. Not impressed by "Al Aore" and the continuum of trying to fool those who don't know any better that the "hate" is equally distributed, but very impressed by Flash's post. That was honorable-a lot more of that and this divisive crap would start to simmer down.
I'm pretty sure that had more of that been forthcoming from the left, people like the Elder would not have felt the big F-U coming out loud and strong. A person (or a group) can only take so much.
Let me just bookend this thread by making sure it's understood; I believe most Democrats are good, honest, honorable people, and perfectly good Americans. They seek a better country (albeit through means that we Republicans oppose through our Democratic process). I coexist happily with Democrats - I live in Saint Paul, so if I couldn't, I'd be really hosed.
As to Bin Laden - of course, most Democrats would gladly kill Bin Laden with a spork. As, indeed, would John Kerry - which doesn't change my belief that Bin Laden would have been much happier with Kerry in the White House, a belief that speaks more to Kerry's foreign and defense policies than Democrats' beliefs.
There are some truly vile excrescences in the Democrat Party - Michael Moore, DU, George Soros, Democrats.com, Sandy Pappas, Barbra Streisand, MTV, Dan Rather - and it's on them that Elder and I focused, as indeed we've been focusing for quite some time.
Mitch that was right on the head. We all heard some amazing classless name calling from the left. I can't blame Elder for lashing out. Good for him and good for you for posting it.
"Mitch, I'm amazed and quite impressed by your ability to completely ignore your own complicity in this campaign of hate."
This ought to be good.
"Your hatred of the French is quite unhealthy."
I don't hate the French. I think they see their interests and ours as inimical, and that we need to be realistic about their prospects as "allies".
" You have no qualms about saying bin Laden wants Kerry. You suggest - no, you say outright that tyrants are for Kerry."
That's not hate, that's a sober appraisal of the probable reactions of the parties invovled. It doesn't say Kerry endorses dictators - it says that Kim Jong Il and Bin Laden would prefer Kerry won. I see no reason to change my mind.
"
