Matt Yglesias is hard at work:
I would caution anyone against deluding themselves into believing that a second Bush term won't be so bad. With a majority of the popular vote and expanded margins in the House and Senate, we're going to see Bush Unleashed -- something that will probably be much crazier than what we've seen over the past four years. But since conventional Democrat wisdom is that the GOP is in for a big battle for its' soul...
...OK, which is it?

It will be very interesting to watch the Democrats restructure themselves.
The door would now seem wide open for Hillary in '08, but Terry McAulliffe is her guy, and I don't see how the Dems can not throw him overboard after yet another round of defeats. Even goofy Mark Dayton has figured out that he is a millstone around the party's neck.
So who moves in to fill the void? Should be lots of fun.

Another NE Liberal gets the nomination? I'd think even the Dems might not embrace that scenario too readily at this point.
And I think she'd need Terry McAuliff still running the DNC. But I'm betting his days are numbered in the low double digits at this point.
