The Blog meets the Godfather

The Northern Alliance will be covering the election live on the air tonight - AM1280 The Patriot, if you're in the Twin Cities. We'll be doing cut-ins on Hugh Hewitts live broadcast from Dallas, starting at 8PM and going until 3AM or a concession, whichever comes first.

Ed, King and I will also be liveblogging the evening. Please send any comments or other info about your own local elections; I'll be posting an open election thread this evening.

John Hinderaker of Powerline will be live in New York with NBC Nightly News.

The Times has an article featuring bloggers' opinions, from the trite (Tom Burka, Wonkette) to the excellent (The Powerguys, Ann Althouse).

Might as well get this started. "Reporting for {civic} duty" from suburban Pittsburgh.

On my morning walk to the polling place, I passed by the local ice cream parlor, which in past has only been open during summer. A sign that appeared to say "SOUP AND SANDWICHES FOR LURCH" caught my eye. Great, I thought, they must be offering free food for Kerry voters. A more careful inspection of the sign revealed that the last word was LUNCH, not Lurch. This election is affecting my perception of reality.

I arrived outside of the polling place (a Presbyterian church) about three minutes before 7AM DST. About 20-30 people were already in line. Once inside, the queue moved steadily and I was out about 20 minutes later. People were generally silent, except for a little girl who brashly instructed her grandfather to vote for Bush as soon as he stepped behind the curtain. Fortunately, no one tried to have her arrested for electioneering.

The only thing unusual that I saw was a man sitting in a chair about 3 feet away from the clerks' table. He kept flipping pages on a clipboard, but I could not see what exactly what was on the pages. He seemed to take notes intermittently. Possibly a lawyer of some kind?

And yes, I voted straight Republican, by clicking each lever individually. It's more fun than pulling the big lever. There was one Dem running unopposed for State Rep. I though about following Mitch's lead and writing in my son, but decided against it. Maybe next time.

The franchise is secure for me.

"This election is affecting my perception of reality."

That explains why he voted a straight GOP ticket!

Heh heh heh. Not only that, but I also got confused when I was in line and had to call back a lady who started to take off without pushing the Big Red Button (TM). "Catch that lady in the black coat!", they said. I called her back, all right, but she was wearing a sort of tan/brown jacket. I wasn't the one who was colorblind, it was everyone else in the room.

I have no idea how they would have handled it if she hadn't come back to push the Big Red Button (TM). No one wants to deal with election controversy when they're hurrying to vote before going to work.

A Quadrophenia reference; very nice. I hope you and the PowerLine crew are right about Minnesota. (I'm in NYC, where voting is a noble, but futile, gesture.)
