Ashley's Story

If you came directly out from under a rock to read this blog, you might not have seen Ashley's Story yet.

It's one of the more moving campaign ads I've ever seen.

Who can quibble with it?

Josh "ua Micah" Marshall, of course.

Oh, Marshall leaves Ashley alone. But he notes (with my added emphasis):

If you click around the site a little further though you see that the money is actually for a slew of anti-Kerry attack ads.

There is an Ashley's Story ad, about how President Bush changed the girl's life. But that's just one. The other eight include the 'Surfer Dude' ad ridiculing Kerry as a windsurfer who flipflops, another -- What If -- that asks the terrifying question of what would have happened if 9/11 had happened on Kerry's watch rather than President Bush's, and a slew of others of a similar sort.

Every notice how every ad that criticizes Kerry gets called an "Attack Ad"?

Mitch- Ever notice how every speech and ad mentioning Kerry gets labeled an "attack" ad? Ever notice how every speech Al Gore gives is labeled an "attack" on Bush?

Marshall was pointing out the fact that people are thinking they are donating to run the Ashley's story ad, when in fact they are helping run several... including the more "attack" oriented ads.

Sorry- scratch Kerry, insert Bush in my previous comment.

Why, this is simply shocking news. Thank goodness Josh and Carson have uncovered yet another vicious right-wing conspiracy, this time to use political ads to raise money to spend on other political ads. Golly, you'd think it was an election year...

Gosh, some people have short memories. I remember Clinton getting pilloried for "I feel your pain." Now the cons get all moist because Bush hugs a little girl. And looks straight into the camera--he knows the value of a good photo op. He's at least that smart.

Free Republic is practically dripping. See the hands, waving in the air; see the plump sexless women dropping to the carpet in ecstasy, moaning, "my president, my president . . . ."

What did they call Stalin? The Little Father?

Big difference: Clinton "felt your pain" over milk prices. Bush felt Ashley's pain over - this is rather important - her mother's murder at the hand of terrorists.

Another big difference - Bush doesn't use every photo-op as an excuse for mawkish pseudo-sentiment. Remember Clinton at Ron Brown's funeral? Laughing with Vernon Jordan, til he saw the cameras - and then he turned on the tears, literally inside a second? Yeah, there WAS a reason we mocked Clinton.

By the way, a little word to you; Republican women are not only better-looking as a rule, but as ABC news discovered last week, Republican couples have better sex lives.

Have a great weekend.
