Notify Lileks

The ironic camp event of the season.

Actually, I finally discovered something worse than a William Shatner album; Ben Folds producing a William Shatner album.

You got something against Ben Folds there Mitch? I mean other than the fact that he's a pinko commie rat bastard when it comes to politics.

Musicians with noxious politics? Pheh.

Musicians who bore me stiff? Double-pheh.

Nothing new: Common People only like to dance, drink, and screw...

But since drinking is my only solace, I suppose I'm uncommon.

Okay, Mitch, I can handle you being a Republican.

But disliking Ben Folds? That's just wrong.

Ben Folds Five gave the second-best concert I've ever been to--it was at First Ave, must've been about 1998. Brilliant, high-energy, as fun as anything I've ever seen.

As for the Shatner album, how can anyone be sad that Shatner's got a new album? His version of "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" is the quintessential version, right?

Let's just say Folds leaves me completely cold. I've been convinced before.

Shatner? Oy.

"Ben Folds Five gave the second-best concert I've ever been to--it was at First Ave, must've been about 1998. Brilliant, high-energy, as fun as anything I've ever seen."

I've never seen Folds. But weren't you the one who said Ventura was a great governor, too?

Ventura wasn't a disaster as Governor. He *could have been* a great Governor had he had a different temperament.

But alas, he didn't.

As for BF5, I dare you to listen to "Rockin' the Suburbs" and not laugh.

"Ventura wasn't a disaster as Governor. He *could have been* a great Governor had he had a different temperament.

But alas, he didn't."

This just in: "Mitch Berg could have been the greatest sprinter in Olympic history, had he just shaved 15 seconds off his time in the 100 yard dash. Alas, he didn't".

"As for BF5, I dare you to listen to "Rockin' the Suburbs" and not laugh. "

On the other hand, a forensic examination of some Ben Folds artifacts have caused me to move him off my "execrable" list, and promote them to my "do not shoot on sight" list. Well played, Fecke.

Although as re Shatner: "He *could* have been a great actor, had he had any talent..."
