Drummed Out

Via Jay Reding, we read Kevin Drum has declined to dive fully clothed into the fever swamp:

I think it's time for everyone to give up on this. The memos are almost certainly fakes, they're sucking up media bandwidth that could be better used elsewhere, and Dan Rather is toast. Besides, there was really nothing in them that told us anything new.
True in so many ways.

Read the whole thing.

It seems significant when prominent liberals like Kevin Drum and Richard Cohen refuse to join those who have the Bush hatred disorder. Just because someone is a liberal doesn't mean that they have to be bad people. Too many liberals have become unhinged, and it is hard to see what the exact cause is.

People that I used to like, such as Margaret Carlson have the bug. I used to think that Al Hunt's "story" was pretty compelling, but he has the "bug" big time, and I find it too tiresome to read or listen to what he has to say.

I can't be the only one repelled by the Bush-hate syndrome (not that I am a liberal any longer).

I think they shouldn't be let off so easy. If you go out and smear somebody with forged evidence, you shouldn't be allowed to excuse yourself with a "Move on." That's what their argument was about Clinton's lying: This doesn't deserve all the attention it's getting. That's where the name of MoveOn.org originated.

But they're not moving on. They're going back to the mudpit, arguing that Bush's National Guard service was dishonorable, and justifying forgery as "fake but accurate." They should get blowback like that guy in the above photo. They opened this can of worms; they should now have to eat it.

What Drum should be saying is that he can no longer support or be associated with people who are so driven to win an election that they resort to tactics like this.
