MTV's "Rock The Vote" has always been the most preening, contemptuous manifestations of the pop culture "elite"'s disdain for the intelligence of American youth.
Since the beginning, RTV has been a simplistic spoon-feeding of Democrat propaganda to the MTV generation. Its events have been carefully calculated to breed the next generation of dutiful followers.
So imagine the shock the establishment must have felt at this:
on Sunday night when John Kerry's daughters were announced to speak at the annual MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS, the MTV youth were expected to welcome his daughter's as pop culture princesses. The image of Alexandra, looking like a gaunt version of Tracey Nelson in a Halloween episode of Square Pegs, was emblematic of so much of the Kerry campaign; "Pay no attention to the facts behind the curtain. Ignore what you see. Adore us for our self-cultivated legend..."Instead, in an era of the unexpected, the daughters of the Democratic candidate were met with cheers -- AND JEERS -- during the live broadcast in Miami.
From the moment Alexandra and Vanessa started speaking, the boos outweighed anything close to cheers, and the reaction turned worse when the daughters asked the VIACOM youth to vote for their father. So shocked by the reaction, the taller of the two daughters tried to 'shhhhhh' her peers to no avail.
Democrats getting booed at the MTV VMAs is like Jerry Falwell getting booed at the GOP National Convention.

*sigh*
Mitch, this is why you shouldn't get your news from Drudge.

Kerry, Bush daughters booed on MTV

MIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- Reaching out to young Americans at MTV's Video Music Awards Sunday night, the daughters of President Bush and his Democratic challenger Sen. John Kerry were met by loud cheers and jeers.
It was unclear exactly whom the cheers and the boos were meant for or why. They began immediately after radio and MTV personality Carson Daly introduced "from New York, Barbara and Jenna Bush and here in Miami, Vanessa and Alexandra Kerry."
The Kerry daughters were at the event in Miami; the Bush daughters appeared in a pre-recorded video.

So it would appear that the Kerry daughters might have been booed. Or it was the Bush twins. My bet: Carson Daly. He's a massive tool.
At any rate, I await the retraction.
Posted by: Jeff Fecke at August 30, 2004 02:20 PMAnd I heard from people who watched the event that the booing was pretty clearly aimed at the Skeletor Twins.
No matter in any case; MTV is programming by airheads, for cretins.
You keep waiting for that retraction, Jeff.
Posted by: mitch at August 30, 2004 02:27 PMActually having watched the video clip, it's pretty clear that they were booing the Kerry daughters:

Note that the Bush daughters weren't even visible on the jumbotron (making it unlikely that they were the target) and the booing actually picked up when the Kerry daughters asked them to vote for their father.
Posted by: Thorley Winston at August 30, 2004 03:02 PMI guess we'll await Jeff Fecke's retraction.
Jeff?

I guess this is why you shouldn't get your "news" from CNN, Jeff. Any anti-Democrat edge will be sanded promptly off before a story is considered ready for public consumption.
Posted by: Meeotch at August 30, 2004 04:17 PMBTW, Fecke, it might be a good idea to select a Blogger template that renders correctly in Firefox. It's kinda hard to read white text on a white background.
I would have left this comment on your blog but I'm afraid that I would break something.
Posted by: Kris at August 30, 2004 07:04 PMWhat Kris said, Jeff. Your text comes out white on white in Firefox AND Mozilla. I don't use IE - it's considered a virus in the Berg house.
Posted by: mitch at August 31, 2004 10:28 AMI found their story about the hamster very important in the debate for who will be President...they mean nothing in the race for President. I'm 28 now so I can't claim to be "hip" anymore, but I don't ever remember so many people my age voting Republican. Don't get me wrong, many my age don't like Bush or are not happy with their choices for President in general. But Kerry is a stiff plain and simple, absent the "Bush Lied" crowd of my friends he has few supporters. My guess is you'll see undecideds in my demographic swing to Bush after the convention following Rudi last night and a hopefully equally inspiring speech by Arnold. Many my age were really pissed after 9/11, gave us a reason to pay attention to politics. Arnold helps with this. He connects with younger, non-political types...perfect for winning those last few undecided voters.
