Mitch:
Checked in to see if you had a follow-up comment on the unbelievable article in today's Star Trib about the sale of WCAL. Apparently, MPR's purchase offer was less than the amount offered by a religious radio network, but St. Olaf's regents voted unanimously to accept MPR's offer (which included some "soft costs" such as ~$1MM in promotional advertising)on the grounds that religious programming was already readily available (and MPR isn't?!) and that MPR's format was more "friendly" to the WCAL community. The one regent quoted just happened to be an ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church of America) bishop. There is something so unbelievably twisted about a church-affiliated college rejecting religious programming in favor of taxpayer-supported propaganda --- no wonder St. Olaf's endowment is in such sad shape!!!!
P.S. Why is Dick Kling still the president of MPR? Wasn't he the center of a controversy a few years back regarding salary he was receiving from an affiliated for-profit catalog business? Somebody should look into those "soft costs" that are part of this deal.
