Not A Bad Idea

Jason Goray is a local (area?) guy I've known for about eight years. The guy wears "counterculture" like some of us wear "clothes".

But unlike a lot of his fellow travellers, he's alwas been a pretty rational guy. I've been trolling for decent lefty blogs, and Jason's...well, is.

One of his post has a good injunction for the left - especially a lot of blogging lefties (and I know Jason would blanche at being called "lefty", but it's my blog...):

Today's
Be careful with the "Bush is a liar" rhetoric. As far as I know, you'll find very few provable lies. You will find statements that were overly confident, predictions that turn out to be wrong, and statements that lead people to make the leap to false conclusions, but few outright lies. Never forget "plausible deniability": a politician who traps their self in a provable lie is a rare fool.

Speaking of which, even though I have indulged in it on occasion, be careful of the "Bush is an idiot" rhetoric as well. First of all, it isn't really all that relevant. The policies of the Bush administration are what they are, and are based on the world view and philosophies of more than just one man.

Secondly, it smacks of elitism. Whether or not you're comfortable with that, the "swing voters" tend not to be. It doesn't matter if you're right or wrong when you're shooting yourself in the foot.

Good thing for everyone, of all political inclinations, to remember.

So - of everyone who worked at Integrity Solutions, we've got Odin, Pete, Jason and I...who am I missing?

Oh! Nice idea. Maybe it's time to dust off isnt.com and get updates and web logs from everyone.

Not only that, going around yelling "Bush is a moron" makes Democrat politicians who got whupped by W - and, by extension, the rest of the party - look like drooling idiots by comparison.

I'd almost posted a request for the URL (the link in your original is busted), but RIGHT before I hit "Post" I saw that Jason himself had posted a comment, and was directed from his link to his site.

Thanks for pointing out the site. Jason (if you see this): Your site was a good read, and that's rare for me in my search for readable not-right-wing sites. In particular, two things stuck out. First, Obama is one impressive dude. I don't agree with all that he says, but I do agree with some, and I didn't get the impression he was snaking me on the rest.

From a communication standpoint, he's like Clinton without the bimbo storms. He's also more radical than he lets on so far, but I get the impression he'll define himself better as he matures, and after he wins the Senate seat in Illinois, which he rightly should win. When he does, I get the impression he won't have to soft-soap his more radical ideas, because he's one hell of a speaker, and can likely make people understand why he feels as he does. Sort of a Jesse Jackson, without the bible-thumper delivery, illegitimate kids, brass-knuckles, and bug-eyes.

Finally, the comments on Bush were good, and contained an item that had never occurred to me re: "Bush as Idiot" - when I hear that, I just shake my head, because he's demonstrably not an idiot. He's also no Obama/Clinton-style communicator, and Kerry's a far smoother talker, but without (in my humble opinion) being a better communicator. All of that doesn't matter. The key point, which had embarrassingly eluded me, is that his supposed idiocy is irrelevant. Thanks to Jason for the enlightenment.

And thanks again, Mitch, for the pointer.

Patton, Kevin - good points, all.

Jason - dusting off isnt.com would be a great idea. There are a few people from there that I'd love to look up.

Especially this one woman I dimly remember...

Thanks for the feedback!

Unfortunately, Xanga only allows members to comment, so if I post anything that anyone wants to criticize or debunk, use the email link to send me an email and include a request that I post it.

I'm glad you had the time to stop over - it is really important to me to consider different ideas and points of view, because it is the best way to find our mistakes and errors of reasoning.

It is part of the reason I got tired of the protest scene. Far too many people only communicate with their "choir" or shout invective at their opponents, and then wonder why they never change anyone's mind.
