Yow

So I heard at the Blogger party on Saturday that Odin Soli is novelizing Plain Layne. The typical novel is between 50,000 and 100,000 words. The 3.5 years of the Plain Layne blog generated 800,000 words.

This made me curious, so I exported all the content on this website into a Word file.

1,176,593 words.

Some of it is Moveable Type database information, of course, but I think that still leaves me more than a million words.

But can I make a novel out of it? Nooooo.

Drastically bad planning on my part.

But you could do a greatest hits collection and compile your best essays. Over the years you've written some great stuff in long post form.

Or how about this -- the Northern Alliance could compile a book of their best essays about a political topic, like the Gulf War II/Iraq or maybe the upcoming presidential election.

I don't think you could simply cut and paste all the essays on, say, the war in Iraq, into a readable book.

There would have to be some transitions, of course, and that's nothing unusual. My greater concern, though, has to do with length. In blogging, brevity is useful, perhaps even more so than in print.

Having read Mitch's blog for only a short time, I'll ask of any good blog in general. Aren't the entries too short to provide a smoothly-flowing text that carries enough depth to be interesting?

But hey, Mitch, if you do want an editor, my rates are reasonable.
