Cultural Watershed

This is the first time I've seen this analogy from a major pundit:

The Commission is so desperate to maintain the illusion that it's conclusions can be trusted that it is denying the parrot is dead.
I'll know my generation has finally taken over when such Python references are as common as spam spam spam eggs spam spam and spam.

Dennis Moore, Dennis Moore, dum dum dum, dum right
Dennis Moore, Dennis Moore, dum dum dum, dum fight
He steals dum dum dum, and gives dum dum dee
Mr. dum...dum dum Moore...dum dum dee....

(Hear the song every time lupens are referenced. Best part of that sketch, of course, is the end, when Dennis Moore realizes he's stolen so much from the rich and givent it to the poor that the poor are now rich, and vice versa. "This wealth redistribution thing is more difficult than I thought," he says, and proceeds to pull over carriages and force the bewildered passengers to give their valuables to each other.)

...and The Elder delivers a blow well below the belt!

When that "major pundit" starts sounding "hip" to you, it's time to accept that fact that you are old. Very, very old.

Dennis Moore, Dennis Moore Riding through the Glen...
Dennis Moore, Dennis Moore Riding with his band of Men...
He steals from the rich and gives to poor
Dennis Moore, Dennis Moore, Dennis Moore......

Later

Dennis Moore, Dennis Moore Riding through the Glen...
Dennis Moore, Dennis Moore Riding with his band of Men...
He steals from the poor and gives to rich....
Stupid Bitch!

Yes indeedy, Mitch, times change.

We can’t bust heads like we used to, but we Major Pundits have our ways. One trick is to tell ‘em stories that don’t go anywhere - like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time....
