How Might My Monologue Have Gone?

So one of these years, I hope to do a real, proper Bloomsday - the annual worldwide celebration of James Joyce in the context of one of the protagonists from Ulysses, held on June 16, the fictional day in the book.

In fact, I'd hoped, maybe this year.

But no, I was in Des Moines. They don't have any especially major Bloomsday festivities there, not that I was aware of, and I was busy either working or driving home the whole day and evening.

Ah, well. Some people have all the fun!

You could always come to NYC next year! Join in the fun at the same old pub - and now it looks like I'll be performing next year too.

Such a rollicking good time.

Or you could organize one yourself in your town/city ... and see who shows up!

Thanks for the link.

We do have Bloomsday stuff here in the Twins - it's a pretty literate city, and St. Paul is inextricably Irish.

I used to do that sort of thing before I had kids. Now, I'm just starting to find the time and mental energy to re-discover some of these things.

But yeah, I'll mark next June 16 down for NYC! (Since I report to a boss near Newark, maybe I'll even do it on OPM!)

Oh I love St. Paul!!

But yes indeed - you must come to Manhattan for Bloomsday next year. :)

You've been to St. Paul? What was the occasion? Details, Details!

(This was the last piece I wrote about St. Paul - I've always been proud of it...)

Oh, yeah - I'll check to see what prices for flights are like next June!

I thought St. Paul was absolutely beautiful. I lived in Chicago for 5 years (I think you know that) - and one of my good friends is a really successful musician out of Milwaukee. And he basically has a regular weekload of gigs in Chicago, Madison, Milwaukee, and others - with occasional bouts out to the Twin Cities - where his fans await his arrival like lunatics, because they don't get to see him as often.

I took a roadtrip with him to one of his shows in St. Paul. It was such a great town - the people at his shows were so fun, so nice, and we had an absolute blast.

Let me try to remember the name of the music club...

That'd be cool.

There was a time in my life I might've known him - I moved here mainly to be a musician, and I used to know EVERYONE.

That was a while ago.
