...that the Abu Ghraibh scandal has erupted into full peals of demands for resignations, and a full-court press to try to tie it as high in the Administration as they can...
...the week after the WMDs turned up in Jordan and the Sudan and John Kerry's campaign veered sharply into the weeds?
So much concern for the Iraqis (whose plight has gotten more press in the last four days than it got in the preceding thirty years!), and at such a perfectly convenient time.
Who knew?

Business as usual. Nothing to see here.
Posted by: the markman at May 7, 2004 09:52 AMThe socialists never stopped at the end of the Cold War. The same misinformation campaign machinery is still in place, and finding grandstanding Congresscritters is easy at any time.
Amazing how CNN has given more coverage to the prison abuse in Iraq than it did to Saddam's abuses during the last decade or so.
Posted by: Another Thought at May 7, 2004 10:40 AMMitch,
I am willing to bet that within the next two weeks, Brigadier General Janis Karpinski, the relieved commanding officer of Abu Ghraib, will become a feminist hero/martyr and a "victim" of the Bush/Rumsfeld machine. Tear jerking testimony to follow, surrounded by the likes of Boxer, Pelosi, Murray, etc. There is no way the feminists let one of the girls be blamed for any of this.
We all recall the Tailhook scandal. LT Paula Coughlin was an active and eager participant in the activities, including the "leg shaving" ceremony. Yet she became the accuser and heroine to the anti-military feminists. A squadron commander, whose name I recalled for many years, but can't now, lost his career, even though he was not involved in any of the so-called lurid activities. His career and life were destroyed because of off-duty away from the command activities that he was not involved in. But General Karpinski, who has rightfully been relieved of command, will, I predict, become a feminist icon of sorts.
If I'm wrong, I'll come to Minnesota and buy a beer for the entire Northern Alliance.
Posted by: James Ph. at May 7, 2004 10:46 AMI think Kerry should be hauled in front of Congress and drilled about his own war crimes and atrocities.
He admitted to far worse than what we are seeing now in his 1971 Meet the Press interview...
Posted by: Another Thought at May 7, 2004 03:58 PMThat would be Bob Stumpf (Well one of the victims anyway) former Blue Angel boss whose appointment to O-6/Air Wing Commander was held indefinitely in congress because he had the dreaded "was in attendance" flag on his service record.
Posted by: fingers at May 7, 2004 08:15 PMI wouldn't touch any bet with a ten foot pole as I've heard the "they're out to get me because I'm female" card has already been played! I could have stomached a "this happened on my watch and though I take full responsibility, I never condoned these acts nor attempted to foster this kind of command environment" plea much easier! On the bright side, Hillary probably needs a running mate for 2008!
Fingers,
That's the guy I was thinking about. Now how about the female officer who lied about being raped to cover up and affair she had at Tailhook?
