{"id":903,"date":"2007-06-07T04:12:11","date_gmt":"2007-06-07T10:12:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/index.php\/index.php\/2007\/06\/07\/rzip-van-wrzynszczyl\/"},"modified":"2007-06-07T04:12:11","modified_gmt":"2007-06-07T10:12:11","slug":"rzip-van-wrzynszczyl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=903","title":{"rendered":"Rzip Van Wrzynszczyl"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Via <em>Schmaltz Und Grieben,<\/em>\u00a0 the <a href=\"http:\/\/schmaltz.typepad.com\/blog\/2007\/06\/i_love_it_when_.html\">story of a man in Poland<\/a> who went into a coma under communism, and awoke a free man:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A 65-year-old railwayman who fell into a coma following an accident in communist Poland regained consciousness 19 years later to find democracy and a market economy, Polish media reported on Saturday.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Wheelchair-bound Jan Grzebski, whom doctors had given only two or three years to live following his 1988 accident, credited his caring wife Gertruda with his revival.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was Gertruda that saved me, and I&#8217;ll never forget it,&#8221; Grzebski told news channel TVN24.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Not forgetting&#8221; seems to be a smart tack to take&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;but I digress.\u00a0 The verdict?\u00a0 Freedom rocks:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;When I went into a coma there was only tea and vinegar in the shops, meat was rationed and huge petrol lines were everywhere,&#8221; Grzebski told TVN24, describing his recollections of the communist system&#8217;s economic collapse.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Now I see people on the streets with cell phones and there are so many goods in the shops it makes my head spin.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Grzebski awoke to find his four children had all married and produced 11 grandchildren during his years in hospital.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Mr. Grzebski gives us Red Minnesotans hope; we will too wake up from the coma that started November 8.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Via Schmaltz Und Grieben,\u00a0 the story of a man in Poland who went into a coma under communism, and awoke a free man: A 65-year-old railwayman who fell into a coma following an accident in communist Poland regained consciousness 19 years later to find democracy and a market economy, Polish media reported on Saturday.
