Not that anyone needed the reminder, but there’s a reason Berg’s Fourth Law<\/a> is called a law<\/em>, and not a breezy suggestion.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

It never fails <\/p>\n

I heard the media hype last week – “the Wolves are gonna do it”.\u00a0 The chuckleheads on local sports media were actively saying they thought the Wolves would go all the way.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

And maybe they could have.\u00a0 But not when the local media were thinking they could\u00a0<\/em>do it.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

But Berg’s Fourth Law is as merciless as it is infallible:<\/p>\n

A Minnesota sports team may be a contender until the moment the local media (and political class) actually believes they will be contenders. At that moment \u2013 be it spring training, late November in the NFL season, or week 72 of the NHL playoffs \u2013 the season will fall irredeemably apart.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

So how did it go?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I messaged my guy at 8pm that it felt like a 123-92 game.. sad to say I was actually super close. Wolves lose 124-94. Season done.
