{"id":88939,"date":"2024-12-23T06:41:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-23T12:41:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=88939"},"modified":"2024-12-23T06:43:58","modified_gmt":"2024-12-23T12:43:58","slug":"they-had-one-job","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=88939","title":{"rendered":"They Had One Job"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A Ramsey County judge <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mprnews.org\/story\/2024\/12\/20\/minnesota-house-tie-in-peril-after-residency-ruling\">has tossed out the election of DFLer Curtis Johnson<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Ramsey County District Judge Leonardo Castro issued an order granting an election challenge against Curtis Johnson, determining he didn\u2019t live in the Roseville area district he sought to represent for the time required in state law.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Johnson\u2019s Republican challenger, Paul Wikstrom, sought the ruling after he and supporters gathered surveillance video and photos that aimed to show Johnson did not reside in the apartment he claimed to inhabit during the campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sos.state.mn.us\/election-administration-campaigns\/become-a-candidate\/candidate-qualifications\/\">The Minnesota Constitution spells out<\/a> that a candidate must live in the state for one year prior to the election and in the district they hope to represent for six months ahead of the election.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>This gives the MNGOP a one-vote lead in the House.  The &#8220;trifecta&#8221; was dead even with 67-67 tie &#8211; tie votes are defeated.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But this means the Speaker will be a Republican, not some jury-rigged power-sharing arrangement.<\/p>\n<p>I strongly urge the GOP to do to the DFL what John Bonham did to hotel rooms.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Ramsey County judge has tossed out the election of DFLer Curtis Johnson: This gives the MNGOP a one-vote lead in the House.
