Serves me right for believing <em>any <\/em>MSM narrative, really.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My bad.  I&#8217;m working on it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But this is the news today:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">For the first time, the U.S. is no longer ranked as one of the 20 happiest countries in the World Happiness Report. The drop comes as researchers say \u201csubjective wellbeing has decreased in all age groups, but especially for young adults\u201d in the country.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/WMBkuz6LRH\">https:\/\/t.co\/WMBkuz6LRH<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/giPtWcepUd\">pic.twitter.com\/giPtWcepUd<\/a><\/p>&mdash; CBS News (@CBSNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CBSNews\/status\/1770465319921856600?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 20, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>So after teaching an entire generation that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If they are not oppressed, they are oppressors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Everything they do is destroying the planet<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>That &#8220;success&#8221; is itself a form of oppression<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The &#8220;American Dream&#8221; is not only dead, but a form of oppression<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The future is &#8220;owning nothing, and liking it&#8221; while eating an insect-based diet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m even more amazed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And remembering the effect Jimmy Carter&#8217;s &#8220;Malaise&#8221; speech had on me, I have to think that either:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>there&#8217;s a huge opportunity waiting out there for a Reagan-like figure to unleash an untapped store of hope, or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Big Left learned from its mistakes in the &#8217;70s, and has trained all hope out of the Millennial and Z generations.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Not sure which is true &#8211; maybe both?   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But that question is the basis of a project I&#8217;ve been mulling for a bit. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Given the way the MSM obsesses over the &#8220;happiness&#8221; of countries like Finland and Denmark, I have to confess I&#8217;m a little surprised that the US was in the Top 20 for happiness in the first place.
