I have a daughter.\u00a0 I want her to be able to go wherever her merits and qualifications take her in her life, whether it&#8217;s a career or domestic life or&#8230;whatever.\u00a0\u00a0So if and where equity is the goal of feminism, I&#8217;m totally on board.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, in the vast majority of our society, the equity feminists have long since won the battles that matter.\u00a0 Feminists with any common sense are currently sorting out the aftermath of those victories (how many women <em>really <\/em>want to put off having kids to join the work force?), but for the most part the &#8220;war&#8221; for women&#8217;s equality is down to a mopping-up operation.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the feminism that&#8217;s most concerned with establishing womyn as a separate fiefdon with its own victimology-based pseudo-religion?\u00a0 Not so much.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So you&#8217;d figure &#8211; rightly &#8211; that a blog called &#8220;Feministe&#8221; would provide a rich vein of fisking material.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wimnonline.org\/WIMNsVoicesBlog\/?p=539\">Someone planted a bomb<\/a> at an Austin, TX <strike>abortion mill<\/strike> &#8220;female health clinic&#8221;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Had that bomb been found outside a post office or a school, the headlines would have been hysterically running on about ZOMG TERRORISM TERRORISM IS AL QAEDA INVOLVED?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Dunno, &#8220;Zuzu&#8221;;\u00a0statistically,\u00a0bombs in the US aren&#8217;t <a href=\"http:\/\/64.233.167.104\/search?q=cache:QtTIeYGtoY4J:www.albany.edu\/sourcebook\/pdf\/t400012005.pdf+bomb+incidents+in+the+US&#038;hl=en&#038;ct=clnk&#038;cd=3&#038;gl=us\">aren&#8217;t nearly as rare as we&#8217;d like<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>And the right-wing warbloggers would be pissing their pants and hyperventilating about profiling Arabs and banning Muslims from public life and dhimmitude and how if they had been there, they\u2019d have stopped it with their concealed carry and their extra-super special powers of righteousness, just like they saw in a movie once and BOMB IRAN! and 9\/11 CHANGED EVERYTHING!!!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Are we done yet?<\/p>\n<p>No?\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>but they still have better things to do than join the military, but they\u2019ll be happy to go into the woods and hunt Russians and shout WOLVERINES!!<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s an abortion clinic, so. Ho-hum.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Now are you done?<\/p>\n<p>Yes?<\/p>\n<p>Is it &#8220;terrorism&#8221; to put a bomb in an abortion clinic, with an aim toward scaring people out of being suppliers or consumers? Absolutely.\u00a0 And as anti-abortion as we are, I don&#8217;t think you can find a single credible right-of-center voice that doesnt&#8217; condemn it.<\/p>\n<p>But is a bomb in an abortion clinic the deeply-evil act of a person who is putting his or her personal quest to protect human life above the law of the land, or\u00a0part of a coordinated attack against the US?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>For some reason, terrorism doesn\u2019t count if it\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/pandagon.net\/2007\/04\/26\/pro-lifers-try-to-kill-again-in-austin\/\">directed against women and their health care providers<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Er, right.\u00a0 Which is why protestors at Planned Parenthood clinics are kept across the street, right?\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00a0It\u2019s just not news, and the fact that it goes unremarked in the national media \u2014 and hell, even in the local media, as in the case of the Austin bomb \u2014 contributes to the idea that women are not important and that violence directed at women is not only to be expected, but to be dismissed.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>To the extent that it didn&#8217;t get covered in the news, it&#8217;s more a symptom of the values of the news industry; nobody bleeds, the story doesn&#8217;t lead.\u00a0 It&#8217;s worth noting that while <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2005\/US\/05\/19\/domestic.terrorism\/\">abortion-related violence has been declining, eco-terrorism has been growing<\/a>, even though the media aren&#8217;t knocking themselves out covering that, either.<\/p>\n<p>Does that mean that the nation doesn&#8217;t care about loggers and meat producers?\u00a0 Or that it&#8217;s really not news?<\/p>\n<p>But if all you&#8217;re after is to assuage your own sense of invincible righteous victimhood, knock yourself out.<\/p>\n<p>And I don&#8217;t mean &#8220;knock yourself out&#8221; to imply I support domestic violence against women, even if it&#8217;s self-inflicted.\u00a0 We&#8217;re clear on this, right?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>UPDATE: <a href=\"http:\/\/powerliberal.blogspot.com\/2007\/04\/bwhahahahaha.html\">Lesser feminists than I chortle<\/a> at my opening sentence, proving two things:\u00a0Twin Cities leftybloggers are largely incapable of carrying on a logical discussion (preferring, with\u00a0a few exceptions,\u00a0snark and obscenity), and George Soros is a terrible comparison shopper.<\/p>\n<p>Seriously, Rew:\u00a0 try to ding my premise.\u00a0 Preferably in terms other than &#8220;bwahahaha&#8221; or &#8220;Mitch has a crush on me&#8221;.\u00a0 Side benefit:\u00a0 If you manage to do either and\/or avoid dumb scatology or wondering why I&#8217;m not in the Army, you&#8217;ll be staging a better argument than 95% of leftybloggers, including the entire <em>Minnesota Monitor <\/em>staff, can manage.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>First things first:\u00a0 I am the most feminist person I know.\u00a0 Seriously.
