The Story of the Little Governor Who Cried Surge, by Joe Doakes<\/p>

Once there was a Governor named Timmy.\u00a0 He had a fine house and many servants, but he was bored.\u00a0 “I know,” he thought, “I’ll cause some excitement. That’ll be fun.”<\/p>

So Timmy ran through the streets yelling “Curve! Curve! We’re all gonna die!”\u00a0 People panicked and bought hand sanitizer, toilet paper and bottled water.\u00a0 But they did not die.<\/p>

Timmy laughed and laughed.\u00a0 But then he got bored again.\u00a0 He ran through the streets again, yelling “Covid! Covid! We’re all gonna die!” People panicked and worked from home.\u00a0 They wore masks.\u00a0 They ate take-out food. But they did not die.<\/p>

Timmy laughed and laughed.\u00a0 But then he got bored again.\u00a0 He ran through the streets a third time, yelling “Cases! Cases! We’re all gonna die.”\u00a0But the people had read the headlines.\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0They knew there were many new Covid cases but hospitalizations had fallen and nobody died.\u00a0 The people did not panic.\u00a0<\/p>

Timmy was furious.\u00a0 This was no fun.\u00a0 He argued with the people.\u00a0 “We’re on the edge of a cliff.\u00a0 As cases spread, hospitalizations will rise and people will die, in a surge!\u00a0 A massive surge!\u00a0 I warned you all Spring that it was coming in May, could be June, or possibly July.\u00a0 We got lucky in August but now it’s September and look out!\u00a0 The Surge!\u00a0 The Surge!\u00a0 We’re all gonna die in The Surge!”<\/p>

But the people turned away.\u00a0 They threw their silly masks in the rubbish bins.\u00a0 They went to weddings for young people starting a new life.\u00a0 They went to funerals for old people ending a long life.\u00a0 They went to backyard bar-b-ques with friends to celebrate the good life.\u00a0 The did not listen to Little Timmy at all.<\/p>

And Little Timmy cried and cried.<\/p>
