{"id":67034,"date":"2018-06-05T11:00:10","date_gmt":"2018-06-05T16:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=67034"},"modified":"2019-05-07T07:26:59","modified_gmt":"2019-05-07T12:26:59","slug":"you-never-count-your-money-when-youre-sitting-at-the-table-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=67034","title":{"rendered":"You Never Count Your Money When You&#8217;re Sitting At The Table"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Conservatives watched, amused, yesterday as the DFL played a long, comical game of musical chairs with their candidacies.<\/p>\n<p>And it&#8217;s going to continue until the filing deadline of 5PM today.<\/p>\n<p>Keith Ellison jumped into the race for Attorney General &#8211; evidence he wants to run for Governor someday.\u00a0 In turn, Ilhan Omar filed to run for Ellison&#8217;s slot in Congress.\u00a0 Phyllis Kahn promptly filed to run for\u00a0<em>that\u00a0<\/em>seat, which she had held for roughly 200 years.\u00a0 But wait!\u00a0 \u00a0Deb Hillstrom jumped in to the AG race, and Mike Freeman was making noises about jumping in as well.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, Lori Swanson, along with retiring (again) congressman Rick Nolan, filed for governor.<\/p>\n<p>And the day ended with rumors of a Franken filing.\u00a0 The questions &#8211; which race (Probably CD5, said the rumor mill) and which Franken (the rumors mentioned both Al and Franni).<\/p>\n<p>GOP pundits greeted the news with a little glee:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nSRwzP23ifI\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>And some of it is justifiable.\u00a0 The DFL has given up all pretense, at least among itself, of being anything but a Metro party.<\/p>\n<p>And the idea of a primary with Lori Swanson\u00a0<em>and\u00a0<\/em>Tim Walz squaring off against Erin Murphy, splitting the Greater Minnesota vote, was certainly tantalizing (especially given the prospect of the Dem vote fraud machine being turned against the DFL).<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m urging a little restraint, here.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s pretty clear the DFL is sliding toward Metro-only status.\u00a0 If they lose CD8 and possibly CD1 this\u00a0 year (both are more possible than at any time in years), and with the knowledge that Colin Peterson&#8217;s potemkin seat in CD7 will never be replaced by a Democrat again when he retires), it&#8217;ll really be official, even\u00a0<em>if\u00a0<\/em>they someday flip CD3.<\/p>\n<p>So the good news is, the DFL is becoming a Metro-only party.<\/p>\n<p>The bad news is, they&#8217;re &#8216;the Metro party.<\/p>\n<p>Hennepin County is a vote machine; a DFL super-de-duper majority that&#8217;s only getting worse.\u00a0 And if &#8211;\u00a0<em>if\u00a0<\/em>&#8211; the MNGO manages to flip enough swing voters statewide to counter that crushing mass of government employees and government clients, the DFL can always create more; there are a zillion refugees in the world, and the DFL, working through its non-profit clients, can always import more just-add-water DFL voters.<\/p>\n<p>And if\u00a0<em>that\u00a0<\/em>doesn&#8217;t work?\u00a0 Minneapolis&#8217; cemeteries are full of potential DFL voters.<\/p>\n<p>Call me a cynic, but I don&#8217;t know if the DFL can screw up enough to lose this state, sometimes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Conservatives watched, amused, yesterday as the DFL played a long, comical game of musical chairs with their candidacies.
