\u00a0Liberals tell us that words have meaning.\u00a0 We cannot say the N word because the mere act of saying it gives the word power and that power warps our thinking to make us bad people.\u00a0 In fact, thinking it is probably enough.
\nWhat happens when a word loses its power?
\nI was running errands over the weekend and realized it was the first day of Sunday liquor so I stopped at MGM in Roseville to buy a celebratory single can of beer.\u00a0 A dozen people were picketing.\u00a0 \u201cTreat Everyone Equal.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cMGM is Racist.\u201d\u00a0 One picketer offered me a sheet of paper on my way into the store.\u00a0 I declined.
\nInside the store, the store manager explained they had to check someone\u2019s bag yesterday and that person felt it was racially motivated, hence the picket today.
\nI was born when Eisenhower was in office.\u00a0 There was actual racism in the country at that time \u2013 segregated drinking fountains, riding the back of the bus, Martin Luther King going to jail.\u00a0 That America disappeared 49 years ago.\u00a0 The young people holding the signs today have never lived in a racist America.
\nI\u2019ve shopped at that MGM for 13 years, since moving to this neighborhood.\u00a0 I can tell you for absolutely positively certain that they do not discriminate against their own customers.\u00a0 The notion is idiotic.\u00a0 I don\u2019t even need to hear the details of the incident that triggered the protest.\u00a0 Every time some Person Whose Life Matters stubs their toe, it\u2019s a racist hate crime and I\u2019m supposed to collapse in a heap sobbing at the injustice.\u00a0 No more.\u00a0 The word has lost its power over me.
\nTo Liberals, the mere accusation of racism is assumed to be sufficient to make a person apologize, cower, cravenly abase oneself to seek temporary absolution.\u00a0 But it\u2019s so overwhelmingly overused that it doesn\u2019t mean anything, it\u2019s a synonym for \u201cmakes me unhappy.\u201d\u00a0 And honestly, I don\u2019t give a hang about things that make other people unhappy. \u00a0\u00a0I got problems of my own.
