A Japanese fleet attacks Pearl Harbor, sinking much of the US battle fleet.\u00a0 They also seize the Philippines and much of the East Indies.<\/p>\n
But they miss the aircraft carriers – which lead a devastating riposte at the head of a US response fuelled by America’s unparalleled economic and idustrial might that drives the Japanese back to home waters and, eventually, vanquish them.<\/p>\n
