{"id":166,"date":"2006-12-05T04:31:40","date_gmt":"2006-12-05T10:31:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/shotinthedark.info\/wp\/index.php\/2006\/12\/05\/independent-online-edition-asia\/"},"modified":"2006-12-05T04:54:14","modified_gmt":"2006-12-05T10:54:14","slug":"independent-online-edition-asia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=166","title":{"rendered":"False Equivalence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I don&#8217;t write much about the difference between Islam and Christianity (or Islam and the West, for that matter); other people do it better.<\/p>\n<p>But when I have, I&#8217;ve gotten the occasional comment claiming that, at least as far as this country is concerned, fundamentalist Christianity remains a bigger threat than fundie Islam.<\/p>\n<p>The commenters (I&#8217;m not going to look them up now &#8211; they&#8217;re on the old site) never cite any concrete reasons, of course.  And I wish they would.<\/p>\n<p>Because I&#8217;m trying to find an example of any group of Christians doing <a href=\"http:\/\/news.independent.co.uk\/world\/asia\/article2023831.ece\">something like this<\/a> any time since the Middle Ages:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The gunmen came at night to drag Mohammed Halim away from his home, in front of his crying children and his wife begging for mercy.<\/p>\n<p>The 46-year-old schoolteacher tried to reassure his family that he would return safely.
