{"id":11468,"date":"2010-06-18T06:23:49","date_gmt":"2010-06-18T11:23:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=11468"},"modified":"2010-06-18T06:23:49","modified_gmt":"2010-06-18T11:23:49","slug":"the-buck","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=11468","title":{"rendered":"The Buck"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Andrew Malcolm in the <em>LATimes <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/washington\/2010\/06\/barack-obama-americans-presidents.html\">h notes for the benefit of his audience<\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;exactly what all of us were telling the nation two years ago; that legislators&#8217; experience is lousy preparation for the Presidency:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>American voters have taken many zigs and zags over the years when choosing their country&#8217;s chief executive.<\/p>\n<p>But one of the amazing consistencies is: They prefer chief executives in the executive office. Five of the last six presidents have been executives &#8212; four governors and one sitting vice president.<\/p>\n<p>The only exception is the current incumbent, <strong>Barack Obama<\/strong>, who as his bipartisan critics tried to point out in 2007-08, had never even run a candy store, let alone a country.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Huh.\u00a0 Do tell, <em>L. A. <\/em>freaking <em>Times<\/em>?\u00a0 Do you finally think so?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>He was a law lecturer<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8230;which was put out there as a key qualification.\u00a0 &#8220;Constitutional Law is <em>great <\/em>background for a president!&#8221;, they say.\u00a0 To which I, and a growing plurality of the American people, respond the President doesn&#8217;t need to litigate the constitution; he just needs to <em>follow <\/em>it.\u00a0 The President needs to know the Constitution exactly as well as a fairly competent policeman to do his job.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>a state senator and, briefly, a U.S. senator.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And it looks like the American people are finally starting to catch up with the GOP:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Overall, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rasmussenreports.com\/public_content\/politics\/obama_administration\/daily_presidential_tracking_poll\" target=\"_blank\">a new Rasmussen Reports poll<\/a> indicated Wednesday, only 42% of Americans currently approve of Obama&#8217;s job, while 57% disapprove. Or compare Louisiana Gov. <strong>Bobby Jindal&#8217;s<\/strong> 66% state approval for his hands-on spill work vs 60% disapproval for the presidential visits, all four of them now.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Jindal is a great comparison of the difference between a real executive &#8211; someone on whose desk the buck stops, someone who makes decisions and gets things done &#8211; and a fake one like Obama, who is seemingly more into<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Fact is, the two main political parties didn&#8217;t give American voters a<strong>&#8230;.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><!-- sphereit end --> &#8230; choice in 2008, nominating legislators for three of the tickets&#8217; four spots &#8212; Obama, <strong>Joe Biden<\/strong> and <strong>John McCain<\/strong>.
