there are a few good writers out there.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With most, of course, it&#8217;s for yuks and giggles.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now, I have a theory about the perennial commenter and blogger who goes by the name &#8220;Phoenix Woman&#8221;.\u00a0 &#8220;Her&#8221; blogging is such a concentrated melange of leftyblog\/&#8221;activist&#8221;\/identifeminist cliches, <a href=\"http:\/\/phoenixwoman.wordpress.com\/2007\/07\/03\/mitch-berg-agent-proshlockateur\/\">delivered with a caricaturish frothing perma-ire<\/a>, that I can only figure that she&#8217;s an incredibly elaborate parody, done by a fiendishly clever, albeit low-shooting, anti-feminist conservative blogger.\u00a0 I&#8217;m guessing Kevin Ecker, JB Doubtless,\u00a0or maybe Dementee.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Long ago, Molly Ivins pointed out that the Republicans were habitual practicers and cultivators of the psychological tic known as \u201cprojection\u201d, wherein one blames other people for one\u2019s own thoughts and deeds.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Maaaaa!\u00a0 They did it first!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And if you can&#8217;t trust Molly Ivins to give you the straight scoop about conservatives, who can you trust?\u00a0 She is &#8211; or was &#8211; the Joe Farah of the frothy left.\u00a0 Again, evidence that &#8220;Phoenix Woman&#8221; is a parody.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Today I\u2019d like to introduce you to Mitch Berg, local Republican radio host and owner of the \u201cShot In The Dark\u201d blog.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s &#8220;conservative&#8221; host &#8211; I&#8217;m not an arm of the party.\u00a0 And &#8220;you&#8221; needn&#8217;t introduce me, since more leftybloggers read me than read &#8220;Mercury Rising&#8221;. \u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Mitchie-poo\u00a0[<em>Oh, I&#8217;ve <\/em>never <em>heard that one! &#8211; Ed<\/em>.] wants to have it both ways: <a href=\"http:\/\/forums.e-democracy.org\/groups\/stpaul-issues\/messages\/topic\/7u4qzO9Y6pKwX2tx2J79Oq\"><strong><font color=\"#c9740a\">He wants to stamp his widdle feet and blame lefty protesters for any and all acts of violence at the upcoming Republican National Convention<\/font><\/strong><\/a>,<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Phoenix Woman&#8221; (ha ha) tips &#8220;her&#8221; hand here.\u00a0 I&#8217;m on record, over and over, supporting the rights of <em>everyone<\/em>, left, right, center, up and down, to protest to their &#8220;widdle&#8221; hearts&#8217; content.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I am, however, pointing out that it is parties on <em>the far fringe left <\/em>that are plotting to &#8220;shut down the convention&#8221; and disrupt life in Saint Paul, in as many words.\u00a0 Nobody has managed to show me a single instance of a conservative group planning &#8211; or even talking about &#8211; &#8220;shutting down&#8221; the DNC, or causing mayhem of any sort in Denver, Saint Paul, or anywhere else.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m pointing that out, because some people seem to be unaware of it.<\/p>\n<p>I have that right.\u00a0 So far.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>while at the same time happily discussing the 2008 convention plans of himself and his buddies at \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Protest_Warrior\"><strong><font color=\"#c9740a\">Protest Warrior<\/font><\/strong><\/a>\u201c, whose members like to go around <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sourcewatch.org\/index.php?title=Protest_Warrior\"><strong><font color=\"#c9740a\">doing stupid things while pretending to be lefty protesters<\/font><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If &#8220;The Colbert Report&#8221; can do stupid things and pretend to be a conservative talk show, why can&#8217;t the right return the favor?\u00a0 Again, &#8220;Phoenix Woman&#8221; tips &#8220;her&#8221; hand; most lefties\u00a0 I know can get a yuk or two about PW&#8217;s dead-on parodies.\u00a0 If &#8220;she&#8221; really exists, she would seem to need a good tranquilizer.<\/p>\n<p>This is, by the way, the second time today I&#8217;ve seen a leftyblogger or email forum corrrespondent cite that particular piece about Protest Warrior.\u00a0 Hmmmm.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The left &#8211; no, I&#8217;ll be fair, the dogmatic fringe left &#8211;\u00a0is terrified of <em>other peoples&#8217; <\/em>freedom of speech.\u00a0 It&#8217;s why they&#8217;re openly advocating the return of the &#8220;Fairness Doctrine&#8221;, it&#8217;s why they support campaign finance &#8220;reform&#8221; (and bringing conservative blogs under its aegis), and it&#8217;s why they stood outside the Highland Park District Council meeting asking people not to vote for Bill Paulos and Georgia Dietz; because they <em>love <\/em>diversity, as long as it&#8217;s the kind of diversity Alan Dershowitz decried at Harvard &#8211; people with different skin color or gender, who think exactly the same.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So, for the record:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Democrats &#8211; protest at the RNC all you want!\u00a0 It&#8217;s a free country, and unlike &#8220;Phoenix Woman&#8221;, I believe in free speech for <em>everyone<\/em>!<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Anarkids&#8221; &#8211; welcome to Saint Paul!\u00a0 Smile for the camera!<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Phoenix Woman&#8221; &#8211; as parody goes, you&#8217;re no &#8220;Plain Layne&#8221;.\u00a0 You&#8217;re not even &#8220;Feisty Republican Whore&#8221;.\u00a0 But whatever floats your boat.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And that, as they say, is all.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I read a lot of local leftybloggers.\u00a0 With some, it&#8217;s a pleasure;
