Thanks, Media

The good news:  The Eunuchbomber’s underwear bomb probably wouldn’t have destroyed the 747.

A bomb on board a U.S. Christmas Day flight would have failed to bring the plane down even if it had been detonated successfully, a new test explosion suggests.

A controlled blast on a Boeing 747, using the same explosives that Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab is accused of smuggling on board, failed to burst the fuselage.

It means, had the bomb exploded on December 25, Flight 253 from Amsterdam to Detroit would have successfully landed .

Testing showed that the a charge the size of the underwear bomb would have sprung some rivets and bulged some fuselage skin – bad for resale value, of course – but not compromised the plane’s structural integrity or blown up its fuel tanks.

The bad news?  Now the terrorists know this.

  1. Yeah, now the terrorists know this……..but given what happened to the eunuch bomber, how much chance will they have of getting some other poor fool to put bombs in his shorts?

The fuselage skin may have only bulged and sprung some rivets, but the would-be terrorist’s skin presumably has blistered, and his nuts are far worse for wear….to carry an analogy perhaps too far for a Monday morning.

I’ll be surprised and amused if that stunt is repeated any time soon.

  2. Doggie, they have developed a method for putting bombs in breast implants. Kinda puts a new spin on the term “bombshell”, doesn’t it?

Yeah, it’s not like the world is full of the kind of dim-wits that would elevate a completely unqualified talking head to the most powerful position on the planet on a promise of Hopey/Changey…is it?

  4. I think it’s unfortunate that this news has been released. Other than the danger to innocents I’m kinda happy with the thought that these Jihad types are blowing their balls off!

  5. So basically the TSA and their colleagues around the world just need to be on the lookout for a dude with a pantload like Angryclown and they’ve got their terrorist.

  6. From the picture it looked like the test was done on a totally depressurized airplane with no wing load. The Lockerbie 747 didn’t have much explosives but it was in flight and pressurized at higher altitude.
