He allegedly told her that he was going to blow her up with a home made bomb. She called the police, who came to the scene, but mommy declined to press charges, so nothing could be done. As we’ve heard and in too many cases, seen, nothing can be done to these miscreants for making threats, until they actually act on those threats or unless the victims press charges.
I’m grimly amused at the news readers who report the story having to articulate the verbal mouthful “El Be Gee Kew Tee” instead of the obvious “gay bar.” Not that there’s anything wrong with it.

The killer was the product of a broken home. His mother is a convicted criminal and very likely mentally ill. His father is invisible here, likely AWOL. His maternal grandfather is a locally prominent right-wing extremist who endorsed the violent attack on the US Capitol. And his family belongs to a church that famously demonizes gay people.
In addition, he already committed at least one major violent felony—threatening to kill his mother by setting off a bomb in a residential neighborhood—which he was apparently allowed to get away with.
There appears to have been lot of Hate & Violence Grooming™️ in his dysfunctional family.
Probably a good thing he didn’t have access to any firearms.
OK, Emery, gonna fisk you on this. Dipstick’s maternal grandfather is not local at all, but is an outgoing California legislator. He endorsed the protest, but not the violence, on January 6. His mother is a Mormon, apparently, was living on her own, but it’s unclear whether Dipstick subscribed to that theology at all, nor is it clear that that church, which recently came on board with a federal bill to nationalize Obergefell, “demonizes” homosexuals in any real way.
Mom’s crimes are mostly vehicular and alcohol related, onr arrest for arson, but not a conviction.

Really, as far as I can tell, there is a very serious question of why a man with known mental health issues, and who had just had an armed standoff with the Colorado Springs police a year ago, was apparently not prosecuted. Arrested for five felonies in that case, any one of which should have taken Dipstick’s guns and body armor from him, and would probably have taken him off the streets.
Put gently, when we fail to prosecute people (and/or get help for the mentally ill), we end up getting people killed. It does us no favors to be gentle with people because they “are like us.”

The protection the accused wanted was to not be associated with his father, a porn actor, heavy drug user, and general jack*ss.
