Mid-2010s. Democrats chatter up a storm about Kansas, whose conservative governor and legislature lowered taxes without cutting spending, leading to all sorts of financial issues. Democrats (pointedly ignoring the success of many conservative states that held lines on both taxes and spending with superlative results) railed on Kansas as a sign that conservative governance couldn’t work.
2022: Democrats cut taxes for short-term gain, ignoring spending.
Democrat officials actually luv being called out for their hypocrisy. It’s like the ultimate compliment that indicates just how much control they have.
As to the nickels and dimes being “returned” in the IL budget, I don’t know who I’m more impressed by. The government officials who think those pittances actually make a difference or the voters who are so easily bought off for so little.
Isn’t Illinois the state with such fiscal discipline that they give lottery winners IOUs?
