Pondering The Decline

Joel Doakes from Como Park emails:

If:

A sane man instinctively recoils in horror from harming another, and later suffers PTSD from the guilt;

A sociopath cares about his own group but not other groups and therefore has no problem harming them; and

A psychopath actively enjoys harming people and seeks out the opportunity to do so; then,

judging from behavior observed on freeways, grocery stores, Twitter and social media, ordinary Americans seem to be sliding from sanity to sociopathy, becoming less empathetic and more emphatic, less generous minded and more generally pissed at the world in general. And judging from crime reports and YouTube videos, young African-Americans seem to be sliding from sociopathy toward psychopathy.

If true, this change will make it easier for all Americans to resort to violence, murder, rebellion, revolution, which is what certain Liberal/Progressive/Leftists seem to desire: an end to the United States as it now exists.

Why has this happened?

Did we fall or were we pushed?

Well I’m not going to answer directly, I will remind you that the extremes like it when people feel the need to abandon the center.

  1. I will remind you that the extremes like it when people feel the need to abandon the center.

    – Keep calm and vote harder
    – We’ll get them next time
    – Failure is opportunity
    – MAGA

  2. I’m gonna keep asking because I do not know the answer: Who is writing the script?

  3. In my view, there’s been a culture shift when when I was a kid, and that shift seems to be that it is far less acceptable for an older person to informally mentor or warn a young person about their behavior. Instead of an implicit agreement that the older person would mentor the younger one, and then as the younger one grew in capability and character, that older person would also step up with references for jobs, recommendations for college, and the like.

Today, it increasingly seems like the response to older people doing this is more or less “OK boomer”, and it reminds me of the story I heard about the behavior of young bull elephants in areas where the old bulls had been chased away or killed; they were aggressively antisocial. On a hunch, those in the area re-introduced a few older bulls to the area, and very quickly, the behavior of young bulls improved as the older bulls effectively said to them “knock it off.”

So we might infer to a great degree, what’s going on is that we’ve separated a generation or two of young people from older people, and the answer to the question “who is writing the script?” is first of all politicians who want to increase the separation between generations (longer days at school, more subsidies for college, etc..), and second (perhaps more importantly) those old guys like myself who aren’t holding up the deal that older guys in my childhood held up for me.

  4. Anarcho-tyranny, it’s a feature not a bug. Whereby the anarchy brings about the tyranny. Who’s writing the script? Those who write the checks. Need an example? Ask yourself who underwrote the last presidential election?
