SCENE: Mitch BERG is having a glass of wine at the bar in Whole Foods in Saint Paujl, after a day of vigorous shopping. Lost in the reverie, he doesn’t notice Avery LIBRELLE has walked in.

LIBRELLE: Merg!

BERG: Oh, shhhhhuuuure enough, it’s Avery. Long time no see. What’s u..

LIBRELLE: Marsha Blackburn asked Ketanji Brown Jackson a stupid, badgering question at her confirmation hearing to be the best Supreme Court justice ever.

BERG: Best?

LIBRELLE: She is the most qualified jurist in history! The Washington Post showed it! Pictures, being science, never lie!

BERG: Well, not so much.

LIBRELLE: I never read National Review.

BERG: Clearly. So why do you think it was a “stupid, badgering question”?

LIBRELLE: It’s purely politicized, and she’ll never have to rule on that. “What’s a woman?” Mitch, please.

BERG: First: SCOTUS hearings, politicized? Bring that up when Robert Bork, Janice Rogers Brown, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett are up for confirmation.

LIBRELLE: Those people were all in the past…

BERG: Exactly. As to never having to rule on that? Perhaps. But answering “what is a woman?”

LIBRELLE: It was an unfair question for which she had no time to prepare.

BERG: (looking at watch). A woman is an adult human with two “X” chromosomes. Three seconds. No prep time. And I didn’t even go to Harvard Law School.

LIBRELLE: She will never have to rule on what a woman is.

BERG: Perhaps. But she’ll be asked to rule on questions where much of the population does know what the answer is; the fact she’s willing to equivocate on something this comical, to keep the “progressive” wing of her party happy, is a very bad sign.

LIBRELLE: There are no such quesitons in the law! Its science!

BERG: When does human life being?

LIBRELLE: I don’t know. I’m not a doctor.

BERG: When do community standards violate free association?

LIBRELLE: I don’t know. I’m not the community.

BERG: Huh. When does the right to free speech interfere with private property rights?

LIBRELLE: I don’t know. I’m not a professor of rhetoric.

BERG: Huh. What does the phrase “Right of the People” mean?

LIBRELLE: I don’t know. I’m not a law professor.

BERG: A SCOTUS justice will be ruling on any or all of those things, including in the next term.

LIBRELLE: I don’t care. It was still a stupid question.

BERG: Nah. It fixed the front lines in the culture war – the issue beneath all the other issues in the upcoming mid-terms. And it showed which side are the metaphorical Russians, and which are the figurative Ukrainians.

LIBRELLE: Bla bla bla. So where are the avocados?

BERG: I don’t know. I’m not a grocer.

  1. This nonsense has the potential to erase women’s programs throughout academia and the private sector.
FYI, the “trans” swimmer Leah Thompson has a girlfriend with whom he enjoys a normal, heterosexual relationship.

  2. FYI, the “trans” swimmer Leah Thompson has a girlfriend with whom he enjoys a normal, heterosexual relationship.

    I had not heard this.

    Pointer?

  3. Lia Thomas, not Thompson. I don’t know about a girlfriend, but there was anonymous reporting that “she” is still attracted to women, which would suggest “her” teammates have seen her original equipment was actually still functional.

I half wonder if “she” is trying to push “trans” people out of sports for good.

  4. What hollow victories Lia Thomas has won participating as a female. What shallow records she has set. She is setting women’s rights back by decades. As some like to say, gender is not the same as sex. In this instance that seems exactly correct.

  5. On the contrary, E. Lia Thomas is the best thing that’s happened to sports since Bobby Riggs took a dive to Billy Jean King to clear his gambling debts.

Thomas has completely destroyed the myth that women are equal to men. Sports fans always knew it – watch the NBA versus the WNBA some time – but with Thomas smashing all records and winning by a length, it’s time for Americans to wake up and realize that girls sports are a waste of time and money. Females are simply unable to be competitive. In a few years, there will be Varsity Boys and Junior Varsity Boys Pretending to be Girls and no XX chromosome people at all.

Which is a good thing. Stop kidding yourselves, girls. You’ll never be good enough. Concentrate on learning to do things only females can do well, like baking cookies and raising children. Make your home decorating the envy of all your neighbors. Show those snotty B’s on the PTA that your kid’s art project is every bit as good as their store-bought ones; better, even.

The entire nation should be thanking Lia Thomas for demonstrating so clearly the folly of the entire women’s liberation movement. So brave!

  6. This is not a liberal thing. That is not a Trump nation protesting her participation in women’s sports. There is no Democratic proposal or law that trans women must be allowed to compete in women’s sports. If they are currently doing that it is the result of the sports league’s decisions and the matter should be taken up with the administrators.

The liberal position is to acknowledge an individuals right to identify as the gender they prefer and and to protect them from discrimination based on prejudicial disapproval of their choice. It does not confer upon them the right and the certainty of dominating women’s sports to the disadvantage of almost all XX chromosomal women.

I am perfectly willing to accept Ms Thomas choice to identify and live as the female gender but that choice cannot impinge on and eradicate the entire concept of women’s sports which is in fact based not on gender differences but on chromosomal based sexual characteristics between males and females which produce radically different aptitudes for almost all physical activities. Those sexual differences remain and should obviously disqualify an XY Lia Thomas from competing in the women’s leagues.

    Even Caitlyn Jenner agrees.

  7. Really, Emery?!
Ask any heterosexual female, even the ones that are woke, what they would do if they were in the shower in any women’s locker room, if a man that identifies as a woman walked in and started showering right next to her. Then, ask them if they would like their juvenile and even teen daughters to experience that. Woke f-ing libidiots are solely responsible for allowing this farce to be tolerated and advanced.

  8. I disagree, E. It’s not about freeing trans individuals to live their own lives (a conservative/libertarian concept), it’s about forcing everyone else to live trans lives (a Liberal/Progressive demand). The trans movement is entirely a Liberal thing.

Liberals know it, which is why the nominee had to lie to the Senate. She doesn’t know what a woman is? Come off it. She knows damned well that a woman is an adult human having XX chromosomes, but she can’t admit it because that would destroy the rationale for the Boys Pretending to be Girls movement which insists everything is determined by a person’s state of mind on any given day.

Not that it matters. Elena Kagan told the Senate in her 2009 confirmation, “There is no federal constitutional right to same-sex marriage,” then joined the majority opinion in Obergefell (2015) which explicitly held there was a federal constitutional right to same-sex marriage. The Constitution didn’t change in six short years, only her answer changed. It’s entirely fair to conclude she was lying to the Senate, same as the current nominee, to deflect the outcry which an honest answer would have aroused.

The nominee was obviously lying. That alone should be enough to disqualify her. But not for Liberals. For them, lying is business as usual.

  9. From the Democrat platform of 2016: “It is unacceptable to target, defame, or exclude anyone because of their race, ethnicity, national origin, language, religion, gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability.”
Yet here is crazy ol’ Emery, claiming that the Dems are in favor of excluding genetic males from female sports.

  10. Joe Doakes’ @12:29 reminds us that the rage against women soccer players being paid less than male soccer players was in fact the proper thing to do. You don’t pay bad soccer players as much as good soccer players, do you?
Once you admit that Lia Thomson is not a woman, but a man playing at being a woman, the whole shitty edifice of identity politics comes crashing down. You aren’t what you say that you are or “what you experience yourself to be.”
It has always been a joke. What did William Thomson know about being a woman? He has never menstruated, never had to think about being pregnant, he went through normal male puberty. Shame on the doctors and psychologists who affirmed the fraud that it is somehow possible to be born in the wrong body. There are more similarities between male humans and male cattle than there are between human men and human women.

  11. Unlike woolly — I haven’t looked closely at transgender issues in sports. Being a parent to 2 daughters I care about women’s rights, and this controversy sets both LGBT and woman’s rights on a collision course. Given a choice, I’d rather not think about it at all.

But the recent articles about trans swimmer Lia Thomas on the U Penn women’s team completely changed my mind. When I looked at the details of Thomas’participation on the team, and the strong evidence that she is a biological male competing against women, I was surprised this situation was allowed to happen.

I sympathize with Thomas and her dream of living a female identity. However, her dream cannot come at the expense of a multitude of girls and women in sports who have needs, dreams, and goals of their own.

  12. Best illustration of what testosterone alone does to athletic performance comes from the Olympics during the 1970s and 1980s, where the East German, Soviet, and Czech teams (among other Warsaw Pact countries) dominated women’s athletics (track & field) and swimming with times that were about 2% better than those “better policed” (more frequent steroid testing) by their national boards. That noted, men’s times in track & swimming are generally about 10% better. There is something going on well beyond just testosterone going on here–Ms. Thomas has given up maybe 5% of performance, but that still puts him about 3% ahead of where he’d be on the ‘Bell Curve’ if he were competing as a man.

And to draw a picture, most of the swimming WRs from the East German era have fallen, but none of the women’s track WRs from 100m to 800m have since 1988. That’s how powerful a couple of percent advantage is, and the 800m WR stood even despite the onslaught of three runners (Caster Semenya was one of them) who are believed to be XY presenting externally as female.

The things that strike me as scary here are twofold. First, how many of the nation’s 850,000 perverts on Megan’s List will show up in women’s locker rooms–plus an equal number that ought to be on the list but haven’t been caught yet? Second, there was a study in the 1980s that found a huge proportion of Olympic athletes would take a drug that would kill them, if it also gave them a gold medal. Well, would some of these also agree to transgender procedures for the same reward? I’m guessing ‘yes”.

Women’s sport has been a mess for a while, and it seems poised to get a lot worse.

  14. Waiting for the first mediocre male blackball player to sign a contract with WNBA.

Post game locker room would look like the gate area of a Spirit airline flight.

  15. Not saying that Lia Thomson is a psycho, but just as background, this meta study estimates that between 1.2% and 4.5% of the population is psychopathic:
    https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fpsyg.2021.661044/full
Percentages are higher among males, and higher in organizations than in non-hierarchical groups.
My point is that over the eons, groups and individuals have devised ways of managing the ever present population of psychopaths that is always present in any significantly sized group of people.
One of the problems you have when you reverse the ordinary roles and say that crazy people are normal and society is insane is that you destroy the mechanisms people use to protect themselves from the psychopaths among us.
I call it the “cuckoo nest syndrome.”
