Imitation

In so many areas, the Twin Cites political class loves to affect an appreciation of Scandinavian governance.

They love the interventionist social democracy, the often successful tinkering with utopian ideas (dependent, of course, on a small, wealthy society with social cohesion that doesn’t exist in American cities over 5,000), the communitarian ethos (see previous parenthetical), while ignoring the less convenient parts, the ethnic homogeneity, the history of fighting against tyrants…

…and, I suspect, this bit here:

Yep. Critical thought, on the part of the news media:

The article charges that politicians and authorities have “lied” about various aspects of the pandemic, prompting these establishments to lose the public trust, noting that the efficacy of vaccines to end the pandemic was also vastly overstated by health authorities…Ekstra Bladet’s public apology is part of a growing trend in the European media that has begun to question the narrative and the governments’ responses to it. For example, one of Germany’s top newspapers, Bild, issued an apology last August for fearmongering over COVID, specifically about claims that children were “going to murder their grandma.”

Who knows? Maybe if they see the Danes are OK with it, the Strib – “the newspaper of the Twin Cities of, by and for Big Karen” – will find the guts to think.a little.

  1. Ekstra Bladet is not the Strib or WaPo or NyTimes. It’s a tabloid like the NY Post or more correctly, the NY Daily News. It’s an important part of Denmark because it is sold as a lunchtime newspaper; to eat during lunchtime at work. Maybe share.

EB has used the slogan, “tør hvor andre tier” (aka “[we] dare when others keep quiet”). You can see how this might be a problem for their reputation when they along with all the other media outlets swallowed raw what the government fed them (that’s another Danish phrase) during their Pandemic. The other media outlets are still swallowing raw their government rationed information.

But the real proof of this newly turned leaf will be to see how they handle, if at all, the destruction and death of the entire Danish mink industry, at one time the largest in the world. Convinced that mink farms posed a massive risk to spreading Kung flu, all mink were killed. This action, that no other country has copied, was unconstitutionally implemented (an “impeachable” offense). Not only that, but the government insisted that it kill all the mink, a job for which it was unprepared and did stupidly and inhumanely. On top of that, now that they realize what they did, it has been covered up by the government and ignored (ie, kept quiet) by the Danish MSM.

  2. Oh, yeah, Euros, in general, are great believers in government, but Danes are the gold standard. They even have a word for it, “autoritetstro”, literally meaning a belief in authority. The majority of Danes are quite incapable of conceiving that their government would lie to them.

  3. In the US the covid madness has a partisan aspect that makes it different from the covid madness in many other countries.

  4. Woolly and jdm appear to be convinced the New World Order abolished liberty and have staked their entire identity and SiTD comments upon it.

Anti-vaccine folks have become Alt-right poisoned into believing a global cabal of elites shut down their lives so they could implant microchips and or win an election. Far right elected officials have played footsie with them.
If or when they get bored of vaccines, they’ll find something equally annoying to latch onto. They’ve already branched out to CRT. They’ll soon need a new way to get their rage high.

  5. Yet another threadjack by Emery! Woohoo!

To the topic (you should try it sometime, Em), it’s very refreshing that one paper has admitted that they’re learning that government pronouncements cannot always be trusted. Hopefully more media outlets on this side of the pond come to realize this as well, especially vis-a-vis the statements of liberal politicians.

  6. ^^So says the Master of Blather!
I have no opinion on whether anyone else should get vaxxed, and I will not disclose my vax status.
This was the opinion of the vast majority of Americans until about, oh, five minutes ago.
The world has gone mad; I remain sane.

  7. I have no doubt that a lot of anti-vax are liberal women who are trying to get pregnant, or are pregnant or nursing. Does that make any sense to you Emery?

  8. ^ Oh, if only there were a vaccine for this deadly disease that was free, effective, and widely available.

I can’t imagine anyone would risk the health and lives of the people they interact with by not getting such a vaccine, if one were to exist.

I bet even former president Trump would get that sort of vaccine. You’d have to be dumber than Trump to pass up a free, effective vaccine that was widely available. Too bad we don’t have such a thing.

We all know that Emery is an insecure momma’s boy that lives in his own little box. I can guarantee you that many Democrats are choosing not to get jabbed, because they can analyze data and think for themselves, because I meet more of them every week. The plandemic and the misinformation and fear mongering, while suppressing educated alternative treatments, have been the greatest red pill out here.
His continued lies about the vaccines being “safe and effective” when mounting evidence, as well as the attempts by the liars and their Big Pharma masters to hide the results of their tests disprove the lies, shows just how f-ing stupid he is.

  10. Wasn’t it Mr D that explained that the Emery just looks for certain words or concepts in any post or comment and then writes what he wants because he’s too stupid to understand the point that was made… OK, OK, you got me, I made up that last part myself.

  11. The other day I watched a long KSTP news segment on masks. You are now supposed to wear an N95 mask, but you can’t wash it because destroys its Omicrom-crushing magical power. Instead you must assume it is contaminated and NOT TOUCH IT!! Now, when you get back from scurrying from your bunker to the store and back, what do you do with this potentially contaminated mask? Since you can’t wash it, you need to hang it somewhere where it won’t touch anything else because it might be CONTAMINATED!!!! They had a “health expert” explain that although you could be almost certain that any omicrons on the mask would become inert after about five hours, YOU CANNOT BE CERTAIN!
Therefore you need to sterilize your mask using the “dry heat” method. You need to stick your n95 mask into an oven heated to 100 deg. C. for an hour.
    Yep. Seriously.

  12. Woolly and jdm appear to be convinced . . . a cabal of elites shut down their lives so they could . . . win an election.

Hey, how come those guys get all the credit? How come I got left out?

It’s not fair. My feelings are hurt. I demand reparations. Twenties will do nicely.

  13. My life has never been “shut down.” I am retired. I spent ten days in Hawaii last winter and a week cruising my MC around the Smoky Mountains last summer. I live in a place that has no covid restrictions.
    Someone is projecting.

  14. It has gotten so crazy that NY Governor Hochul had her mask mandate thrown out by the courts because she had no power to make the mandate. It was completely arbitrary. When Cuomo was gov, the NY legislature revoked the governor’s emergency powers.
The judge who through out the mandate was quite clear: The governor has certain powers, making law is not one of them.
Hochul had no more power to issue a mask mandate than she had to mandate people where their underwear on the outside.
    And it gets worse.
The NY Department of Health says that they will continue to enforce the mandate while they appeal the decision.
Waiting for the “our democracy” people to object to Hochul’s tyranny.

  15. ^ I was in Marquette MI last weekend x-country skiing in the Noquemanon 50K freestyle race. This week I’m back in Seeley WI for the 42K Seeley Hills Classic race. (I spend most of the winter in Seeley.)

I’m vaccinated, healthy and Covid-19 doesn’t affect my lifestyle in the least. I wear a N95 mask
where required and life goes on.

  16. From vaccinations to CRT in one post. Wow, just wow.

I used to dislike the left, sometimes intensely. Now I fear them, for they are batsh*t crazy, like an angry cornered rat. No reason, no logic, just hate.

  17. Emery, you are clearly obsessed with masks and vaccinations. Nothing anyone else does will prevent you from wearing a mask or getting a booster.
You are obsessed with the harmless behavior of people you don’t like and who do not like you.
You have a mental disorder. Get help.

  18. ^ SiTD’s in-house mental health expert, Virologist, Immunologist, Epidemiologist. Did I miss anything else you’re an expert at? Oh ya — pointing lasers at your cat…..

  19. Rat Emery gormlessly spewed(I spend most of the winter in Seeley)

With your ICU nurse daughter? What about the Birkey? Who’s keeping an eye on your lakefront estate? How can you afford to be separated from your vast stock portfolio while the NASDAQ looks like a roller vomit comet?

OMG…What will happen to your gains??

    LMFAO.

  20. Twat— Luck, my friend is where opportunity meets preparation.

Say Twat — has the statue of limitations expired from your dust up @ St Joseph’s in west St. Paul?

  21. LMFAO!!…rat has been cyber stalking his gentiles. I thought you were shredding the 42K Seeley Hills Classic, rat. You got cell coverage out on the trail?

So, who’s holding down the fort at the lakefront estate, rat? Your ICU nurse daughter, or your Nobel Prize winning biochemist son?

    tia rat!

  22. I mention his daughter, and apropos of nothing, rat blurts out something about a “statue of limitations”.

Freudian slip, rat? Feeling guilty? Does my bringing up a daughter cause you anxiety? Maybe you want to unburden yourself…go ahead.

    tia rat.

  23. Twat — probably just a coincidence the bicycle seat thefts miraculously stopped when you moved…

  24. KGB did a brainwashing study a while back. After 6 months of telling a lie, even faced with plain truth, brainwashed population refused to acknowledge it.

  25. “bicycle seat thefts”

What made you think of such a thing? What were you thinking about?

Rat, did you remove the seat from your daughters bike, or was it your son’s? JFC, rat. I bet even your pedo friends “on the lake” would find that creepy. WTF is wrong with you?

  26. It seems that the Biden administration will continue its attempt to use OSHA to enforce its vax mandate. This time, tho, instead of an emergency rule, OSHA will use its standard practice of inviting public comment first, etc., before it issues its rule.
This is the Biden administration redux. It doggedly spends political capital in a pursuing goals which can result in no positive return, which will have heavy political costs, and which is poor policy anyway.
Israel, just about the most vaxxed and boosted nation is seeing skyrocketing covid infections, ICU admissions and deaths.
Even if Biden pushes his OSHA vax mandate through the approval process, not one person will ever be able to say “Biden’s OSHA mandate saved my life!” but hundreds of thousands of people will be able to say “Biden’s OSHA mandate cost me my job.”
It is like watching a guy bash his head against a wall, over and over, while wondering why he has a headache.

  27. Going back to the topic (ahem), we might encourage newspapers to consider these bits of wisdom.

    “Trust, but verify” (Ronald Reagan)
“In God we Trust; all others must provide data”. (W. Edwards Deming)

Isn’t there a journalistic one to the effect of “If my mother says she loves me, I still check sources.”? Again, this is a basic principle that the mass media has largely been ignoring, especially inasmuch as the left is concerned, for decades.

  28. Twat wrote: ..[while the NASDAQ looks like a roller vomit comet?]

If you recall the famous ‘flash crash’ of 2010 the price action reminds me of that moment. As does your sense of confusion — I recognize that also.

Hopefully you’re not one of those ‘investors’ buying high and selling low.

Whether you consider what is going on to be a crash or not depends to a large extent upon when you bought in, what you bought into, your investment philosophy, and if you need the money short-term.

Your positions may be down, but unless you sell, it’s just a math exercise. You still have your shares that will trend back up. If you do sell…”that” is when your money is gone! Just chill and if you have cash on the sidelines, just buy more of your same positions for a lower price invested average.

  29. Here it is; “If your mother tells you she loves you, check it out.” That’s the way newsmen like my great uncle used to work, and it’s a shame they don’t anymore. It’s attributed to Edward Eulenberg and/or Arnold Dornfeld.
