Compare And Contrast

Scene 1: Fall, 2020.

Us:  “Eventually, Covid is going to be endemic.  We’ll never eliminate it.  Masks are public health theater.  Shutdowns will make things worse. Vaccines are great news, but let’s be cautious about the claims.   We need to protect the vulnerable, and learn to live with it.  Eventually, between herd immunity and mutation,  this is going to be just like the flu.

Them:  Hah!  Just like the flu, he says!  Hundreds of thousands have died!  Masks are effective! IF we could only lock down for six weeks, we’d destroy the virus, just like the Germans!  Mask up, Minnesota!

Scene 2: Today.

Them: The experts say Covid is going to be with us for good. Masks maybe useless. The economy needs to breathe! Vaccines are really more like flu shots than smallpox or polio shots. This is going to be like the flu, eventually.

Us: Ummm…

Them: Becasue shut up.

  1. So omicron is going to save us?
Wasn’t it just a month ago that we were told that the unvaccinated were the evil sources of “new variants”?
They aren’t even trying to salvage their reputations at this point.
I knew we were looking at bullshit back in the spring of 2020 when the CDC and state health officials refused to release data on comorbidities of the dead & how many people hospitalized with covid were admitted with covid or got it while in the hospital. Then there was the utter incompetence of the CDC. They couldn’t tell you how many of the unvaxxed admitted to hospitals had previously tested positive for covid, i.e., had a presumption of naturally acquired immunity. That is incompetence at a high level. In a just world, Fauci would spend the rest of his miserable life in prison.
This is fractal idiocy. Normally when something has gone wrong you can take the system apart and say “this part is good, this part is good . . . Ah! Here’s the stupid bit, fix this and we are good to go!”
When something is fractally stupid (like the CDC/state and fed response to covid) when you take it apart to see where it has gone wrong, you find that every component part is stupid, and when you take those bits apart, all of those pieces are stupid, too.
I will remind you that during this “health care crisis,” the CDC and public health officials began by canceling routine medical care, firing doctors and nurses, and shutterng hospitals and clinics.
Only a highly educated elite could f*ck things up this badly.

  2. It’s not all bad for the Donks. Since the whole thing started on Trump’s watch, they can (and will) blame him for all of it, just like Flounder in “Animal House” — you f*cked up, you trusted us.

  3. Mr. D, Trump has recently been looking for the credit he feels he deserves for the development of the vaccines. I’m fully expecting as the catastrophe of the vaccines becomes more known, that Trump is going to get all that credit he wants and more.

  4. They aren’t even trying to salvage their reputations at this point

They don’t have to try. The Media will simply stop talking about what they were saying, like it never happened. Presto.

  5. So let me see if I have this straight: You refuse to get vaccinated, you won’t wear a mask, you go to public places doing neither of those things and then you blame Biden for a surge in Covid cases? How does that work?

  6. So let me see if I have this straight: You refuse to get vaccinated, you won’t wear a mask, you go to public places doing neither of those things and then you blame Biden for a surge in Covid cases? How does that work?

    Define “you.”

  7. It works like this:

The vaccine does not prevent people from catching Covid or from spreading Covid. That’s what ‘breakthrough case’ means. Vaccination status is irrelevent to case counts.

Masks do not prevent people from catching Covid or from spreading Covid. Mask wearing is irrelevent to case counts.

Case counts are largely driven by people getting tested because they’re told to (or required to), not because they’re actually sick. People who have no symptoms don’t spread Covid. Counting asymptomatic cases don’t prevent the spread of Covid. Case counts are irrelevent to the spread of Covid.

Nobody blames Biden for a surge in Covid cases. Well, nobody with intelligence, so that lets you out, E. Covid case numbers surge because it’s cold and flu season, and because we’re overtesting. The Lesko Brandon administration knows it and they see the polls blaming them for useless vaccine/mask requirements. So they’re backing off the panic in hopes voters will forget about it by election time.

Which means they’re tacitly acknowledging we were right all along, as Mitch’s post points out. But they won’t come right out and say that because they’re lying hypocrites who used Covid as an excuse to steal the election. And that’s not something they can admit.

  8. Call me Mr Unvaccinated. My immune system is even stronger now, then when I was only 74 years old.

  9. @Allens: As for the general theory that Covid only killed people who were going to die anyway, over a million excess deaths prove otherwise.

  10. A million excess deaths? Those would be people who weren’t expected to die.
Sounds bad. Did they die of Covid?

    No.

Some of them died of illnesses which weren’t treated because the patients were forbidden to seek non-emergency medical treatment, to keep hospital beds available for the Surge that never came. Some of them died of drug overdoses or suicide, depressed by losing a career or by the endless terror headlines. Some of them died because Governor Walz ordered infected hospital patients sent back to nursing homes where they infected others. Some died because of adverse reactions to the ‘vaccine.’

A million more people may have died than normally would, but not from the virus. They died from the panic over-reaction to the virus. They died from the hoax.

  11. Good chunk of the excess deaths were overdoses, as far as I can tell. Not #1 or #2 on the Pareto, but that’s one start. Then you’ve got about a 20% boost in alcohol related deaths, a similar boost to driving related deaths….it appears that a lot of nickel and dime things are getting big boosts to the death rate.

I believe as well that we had a lot of deaths due to “X plus covid”, and hence what’s happened is that the average age of death pretty much went down a half year or so in the nursing homes. That’s enough to leave a mark in this regard.

  12. Saw a new Fauci V Paul exchange on Youtube this afternoon. Fauci is now retreating behind the CDC. It wasn’t me making those recomendations, it was the CDC! sez Tony “The Weasel” Fauci.
Paul was making the point that point that deaths from covid have only increased since Fauci began issuing his “recommendations” to eager politicians.
I think that the dynamic went something like this:
The pandemic hits. Politicians see this as an opportunity to expand their prestige and power. They demand that Fauci & other “public health officials” give them recommendations that they can turn into edicts with the force of law, under their new, tyrannical “emergency powers.” Fauci and other “public health officials” comply with the wishes of politicians and issue a string of arbitrary “recommendations” that cripple or close businesses, and enforce completely arbitrary social distancing guidelines and mask mandates.
None of this makes the slightest difference at all in stopping or slowing the progress of the pandemic, but the US economy goes into deep recession and millions of workers lose their jobs. The politicians, including, to their shame, many “conservative” politicians borrow trillions of dollars to mitigate the horrific impact of their tyrannical mandates.
Inflation inevitably happens in both hard assets and consumer goods. There are shortages in consumer goods not seen since the forced rationing of the Second World War.
Again, none of the interventions by politicians, following the “recommendations” of the CDC, can be shown to have saved so much as a single life.
And here we are, two years later. We don’t have a vaccination, we have a prophylactic injection that mitigates the harm of covid. Meanwhile, the virus has evolved, as they always do, to a more communicable but less dangerous form.
None of the government interventions have done anything but harm the most vulnerable of our citizens.
This is a failure of truly epic proportions. People now distrust the CDC, distrust the media, distrust the politicians, even distrust their doctors. God help us if we are hit by a new pandemic that is actually a threat to the normal running of society and our economy.

  13. ^ …on the other hand, MP, look on the bright side, they got Biden elected and got rid of that evil fascist Trump.

  14. There should be a word for when you have screwed the pooch so bad that you literally cannot imagine how badly you’ve screwed the pooch.
I bet that the Germans have a word for that.
