Masquerade

Joe Doakes from Como Park emails

We are admonished to wear masks because we must follow the SCIENCE. But is there scientific evidence masks work to control viruses like Covid? A statistician reviewed the studies to find out.

Author’s conclusion: “In sum, of the 14 RCTs (Randomized Control Trials) that have tested the effectiveness of masks in preventing the transmission of respiratory viruses, three suggest, but do not provide any statistically significant evidence in intention-to-treat analysis, that masks might be useful. The other eleven suggest that masks are either useless—whether compared with no masks or because they appear not to add to good hand hygiene alone—or actually counterproductive.”

If there’s no solid scientific evidence that wearing masks works, then there must be some other reason for demanding it. What is that reason?

  1. Funny! The dictatorial governor of Oregon, Kate Brown, just mandated masks outdoors. The results of the Arizona audits are due out any day. It is not a coincidence that the hot bed of AntiFa/BLM activity, Portland, OR, will have identity protection when they dress in Trump or anti vaxxer gear, when they start rioting to clog the news cycle. Further, it’s also no coincidence that the WuFlu origin investigation by the FBI, was “inconclusive”. Yup! Biden and his entire corrupt cabal, is owned by the ChiComs.

  2. Excellent point, JD! And in fact, the CDC still has posted on its website a comparison between surgical (read cloth) masks and N95 respirators, concluding that surgical masks are NOT considered respiratory protection. Here’s the link: https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/npptl/pdfs/understanddifferenceinfographic-508.pdf
Even without the evidence of RCTs showing no benefit from cloth masks, we know that Covid is transmitted not by droplets, which fall to the ground, but by aerosol particles that persist in the air and are NOT FILTERED by cloth masks. In addition, 99% of people do not change their masks daily, which could lead to contamination and transmission person to person.
That is the SCIENCE, which is roundly ignored by people who ought to know better. I’m talking about NPR listening, college educated, Prius driving mask freaks.

  3. I’ve said since day one; show me just one peer reviewed clinical study that concluded cloth masks stop the spread of Corona and I’ll put one on.

I have not because there is none.

  4. Like I linked to yesterday, doctor, there’s at least 30 studies showing masks do not help – there was even one from 1920 after the Spanish flu. But that’s not what’s important. What’s important is how a study, any study that purports to be of any scientific value, could cover the wide variety of ways that people wear their masks as well as the variety of masks. From the pretty common worn paper mask worn below-the-nose to the N95 saturated in spit with gaps on the cheeks. Or pulling a mask down to take a bite or drink. The control group in any such study would, of course, be rich Democrats who are unaffected by the Kung flu.

  5. On top of which people have just had enough. They see what is happening in Australia and know that is what the fascists here want, and we can’t go any farther down that road.

  6. jdm, I have to wear a P100 respirator (not a mask) occasionally for work. In order to get qualified to use it and enter areas where it’s use is mandatory, I had to shave off my beard (hadn’t seen my face for 30 years; yow), and get the mask fitted by a licensed health and safety tech. Yes, I have grown my beard back, but I keep it shaved clean where the respirator seals.

N95 masks, when properly fitted on clean shaven skin will catch 95% of particles as small as 20 nm, which happens to be the size of the WuFlu virus. I have seen zero people wearing a properly fitted N95 mask. One reason for that, is because they cost $7 a pop, and have to be replaced every day, at a minimum.

The people who are sporting those stupid cloth maskies, especially those who have personalized them with sequins, animal prints and sportsball team logos are marking themselves as idiots.

I have never put one on, and I never will.

  7. Kinlaw, have you seen the video of the Aussie cops tackling a dad as his kid is dragged off, screaming, to get juiced? As God is my witness, I would have gone berzerk.

They are building 3 “mandatory quarantine accommodations” to drag malcontents to. Unclear if the internees are told that work will set them free.

The shit is getting serious down under.

  8. BPCT, and, you are not supposed to wear a properly fitted N95 for more than a couple hours at a time and then throw them away.

Oh, and I would like to repeat myself from an earlier thread – the grand experiment in Israel is over. Citizens were told to return to normal lives. There will be no more lockdowns, no more masks, no more case counting. Wuhan Flu will be treated on a case by case basis. So far I heard rationalle was – death rate is negligible so no need for draconian measures. I hope Zelenko had something to do with it. But I have not heard yet what happened to the vax mandate.

I can imagine the horror of removing your beard to remind you that you’ve fallen off your exercise routine and need to step it up at least until multiple chins are widely recognized as sign of virility.

  10. Ok, correction on Israel – was able to get more info today. No more lockdowns and not 100% unsure about mask mandate, but everyone who goes to public spaces, like restaurants, is required to show a negative Wuhan Flu test taken within two hours of entry. So nobody is going anywhere. And since PPP is paid only during official lockdown, remaining small business are expected to die a quick death. So alas, the initial euphoria from what I heard yesterday has worn off and Israeli experiment continues. Sigh…

  11. Just returned from a morning at the State Fair. My estimate is 5% or less mask wearing. Attendance way down unfortunately. Maybe half normal but started picking up by noon. Maybe some people will grow a pair and visit. I get it, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. I like to think I’m setting an example by showing up mask free.
