Waves

There is no Third Wave of Covid cases.  There was no Second Wave.  This is still the First Wave.

When Covid was detected, the Governor issued a Stay Home order to “flatten the curve” so that we wouldn’t overwhelm our limited number of ICU rooms with Covid patients.  That would have meant leaving people to die in hallways and parking lots, untreated, for lack of ICU space. Instead, the plan was to slow the spread of the virus which would delay some Covid hospitalizations.  Rather than a massive surge, we’d see a continuous caseload that was within our ICU capacity.  And it worked . . . no hospital ICU were overwhelmed.

The Stay Home order was never intended to permanently halt Covid deaths.  We knew all along people were going to die, we just didn’t want them to die for lack of treatment in a Surge.  Instead, we wanted them to die more slowly, with treatment if possible.  That’s working, too.

Covid kills old sick people in nursing homes, which created nursing home bed vacancies. But nursing home beds don’t stay vacant – there’s always a waiting list.  New residents move in, they catch the virus from the existing patients or the staff, they die of Covid.  It’s not a wave issue, it’s a location issue.  Nursing homes are slaughterhouses.

And it’s not going to end.  As the virus kills today’s old sick people, other sick people are aging.  Tomorrow’s old sick people are going to die of Covid, too.  And the day after that, and the month after that, and the year after that.  Because that’s what old sick people do in the nursing home: they die, of influenza, emphysema, cancer, diabetes and yes, of Covid.

Nothing President Trump could have done would have prevented the virus from acting according to its nature. It’s here to stay, just like other illnesses that kill old sick people.  Get used to it.

Lose that extra weight (if I did it, anyone can). Get your blood sugar and blood pressure under control (it ain’t easy, but your life may depend on it). Wear a mask and don’t be lingering around older people and people you know are vulnerable.

Start trying to rebuild the economy the Democrats have utterly f****d.

That’s the way forward.

We hope.

  1. “Wear a mask and don’t be lingering around older people and people you know are vulnerable.”

Here’s a better idea: You wear 2. One for u and one 4 me.

That gives everyone the *exact same* protection as both of us wearing one, and it exempts 1 of us from having to look like an witless drone.

    Everybody happy happy happy.

    It’s a win/win.

  2. The stupidest thing that I’ve heard about masks is that since doctors wear them in surgery, they must stop the spread of viruses and bacteria.
But doctors also wear sterilized clothing and one-use latex gloves. When they touch their masks, they aren’t transferring any of their biological material from their face to their hands or vice versa.
“Okay, doc, you gotta remove this guy’s spleen, but we’re all out of gloves, so use your bare hands, but first drape this piece of cloth over your face.”
There is no proof that wearing a face covering prevents the wearer from getting or spreading covid. There is no proof that face covering mandates hinder the spread of covid-19.
    Stop believing in superstition.

  3. Typical masker propaganda:
“Fed Chair Powell: Wearing masks will help bring U.S. economy back”
The fed chairman has no idea whether wearing a mask will prevent or slow the spread of covid. He is merely parroting what “public health officials” have said, and these public health officials also have no idea whether wearing a mask will prevent the spread of covid.
The “public health officials” have been wrong about virtually everything about covid-19. They are flailing. How convenient it is that they now blame their failures on the unwillingness of the people of a republic to kow-tow to their unfounded dictates.

  4. Lots to comment on here. Masks on doctors. Keeps them from spitting or coughing into open wounds. That’s about it. I did lots of office surgery and delivered about 300 babies. Infections: zero with no mask.
Next: Covid deaths. Think of how many people you know named Smith. Divide the number by 10. That’s about as many people you know who have died of Covid. Nationwide there are 2.4 million Smiths. I’ve seen absurd comparisons on social media. “As many Covid deaths as men killed in WW II .” Except the average age is different by 65 years. Other than a blip at the end of winter, the graph of expected deaths worldwide looks the same as if there had been no Covid.
Bars and restaurants are going to be closing around here. Schools going back to distance learning. When Governor Oz claimed 2 weeks ago there were no plans to shut down after the election he was lying.
The one solace I find in a possible Biden victory is that we will be spared Impeachment 2.0. He doesn’t hold the Senate, the Supreme Court is spared, we can thwart the worst of his crazy ideas. And in 2 years he’ll be replaced by Karma Chameleon.

if Biden gets inaugurated I think he will be competing against William Henry Harrison for the shortest serving President. His masters aren’t going to let that senile fool actually serve – I’m betting on a stroke, maybe a good old fashioned slip-and-fall, or if it serves their needs perhaps they’ll see to it he dies of the Wuhan flu which would validate them enforcing a “shutdown” for at least 4 years more.

  6. Biden should choose experienced Cabinet officers. For instance, Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State for Obama; she could serve again. Then the Presidential Succession list would be:

President Biden – failing health when elected, died of stroke
Vice President Harris – tragic accident, slipped and fell in the tub, repeatedly
Speaker of House Nancy Pelosi – drowned in wine vat
President Pro Tem of Senate Chuck Grassley – cocaine overdose
    Secretary of State Hillary Clinton

    Where there’s a will . . . .

the empress dowager of Chappaqua has been making noises displaying her interest in the Sec of Defense position which presents its own terrifying aspects.

  9. One of the “presidential norms” Trump violated was successful ME peace plans and not starting foreign wars. If Biden wins, the dems plan to return to the norms of ME meddling & endless wars for endless peace.

  11. . . . and, of course, when doing contact tracing, the racers do not care whether the people you were in contact with were wearing masks or not wearing masks.
But we’ve known for months that the social mandating and masking mandates are a joke. Famil funeral with everyone wearing masks, verboten, mass gathering to protest the police, A-Okay!

  12. 20% of NYC residents had COVID-19 by early March, study says
    https://www.upi.com/Health_News/2020/11/05/20-of-NYC-residents-had-COVID-19-by-early-March-study-says/1321604530492/

More evidence of flailing by “public health officials” and politicians.
If true, neither had any idea, in early March, that 20% of NY City’s population had covid. They stroked their beards, looked at the data (which showed <%1 population had covid, at the time), and made the recommendations that politicians adopted and demolished the economy and our constitutional, civil, and human rights.
All out of pride. They were the experts! They didn't dare admit that they did not know what the Hell they were doing.

  13. So, Hawaii County (aka the Big Island), added a 2nd requirement for a test on arrival (visitors must already submit a negative test, taken on the mainland, no older than 72 hours).
Of over 12,000 arrival, only 17 tested positive.
Again and again, we see that that the lethality of covid is less than predicted by the experts, and that its activity in the community is less than predicted by the experts.
    It’s not a hoax, it’s a f*cking joke.

  14. And those non-infected, who shared a five-hour plane trip with an infected person? Were they quarantined?
    No.
Were they even told that they shared an airplane with an active covid carrier?
    No.
    Like I said, a f*ckin’ joke.

  15. The last bit about lose weight and get in shape is probably what we should have been saying from the start. It should have been coming from pulpits, the White House, congressional/Senate lecterns, and a lot more.

Of course, when people take control of their own lives, politicians tend to lose out….

  16. Monkey-wrenching a doddering, senile, child molesting grifter into the White House: About a $1Billion.

Witnessing SITD conservatives give him helpful tips on selecting a cabinet before the paint is dry on the coup: Priceless.

  17. MO, stack of surgical masks on the aisle end cap at Walmart…says right on the fucking box: “Not effective for reducing the transmission of the Covid 19 virus”

Just because the reprobates have convinced their easily influenced drones that masks are a matter of life and death, manufacturers know it doesn’t indemnify from law suits.

  18. Covid is over, done with. Chucky Schemer was at a rally back east, shoulder to shoulder with lefty scum, no mask on, and shouting.

Isn’t this a super spreader event? Trump’s rallies were.

    It’s over, Biden fixed it.

  19. Pete, wonder what Hillary is thinking right now?

Why couldn’t they have done this for me?
